Does anyone know much about their program? Their information online is not exactly abundant. I've been accepted and am seriously considering attending (love Nashville, affordable, even as an out-of-stater). I'd greatly appreciate your insight!

This is going to sound horrible but I know as much as you about the program but I applied to keep it as an option. I have never been to Tennessee but have a friend from there and I'm dying to go, so I figured why not apply there too!

Hey there! I applied there also. I have never been to the campus but I love Nashville! When did you guys hear back from Tn State??

I haven't heard anything yet from TN state

I had a phone interview mid-late January and received an email notifying me of my acceptance about a week later. I will be sending in my deposit 2/10. Best of luck to you all, let me know if you visit!

Can you tell me what kinds of questions you were asked during your interview please? And what were your stats if you don't mind sharing.

Sorry this is going off topic, but I saw you did undergrad at WCU. I was admitted into their DPT program. Do you know anything about it/do you like the campus? Thanks 🙂

Puppypaws: It is awesome! Western has been one of the best places to live for four years. I could not have asked for anything better. Western is a BEAUTIFUL campus. It is in a valley and therefore we do not have really bad winters. We do get snow from time to time but not like the upper elevations do! There are tons of places to go visit and explore. There are many waterfalls and places to hike. It is definitely a place to explore the outdoors. I know that Western is building a brand new Human Sciences building that is going to be phenomenal and a great asset to the Physical Therapy students. I THINK it opens in the fall but I am not 100% sure about that. The campus is about 2 hours from Atlanta, 1 hour from Asheville, 1 hour and 30 minutes from Gaitlinburg. So, if you want to go to a big city there are many options. I love to snowboard and the Cataloochee Ski Resort is only 45 minutes from campus in Maggie Valley. PM me if you have any specific questions. I am a tour guide here so I can answer a lot of them!!!

Thanks! Will do!

They try to interview everyone that meets their academic floor ( 900 GRE and 3.0 GPA) or at least that's what I heard so be patient!

Oh that is outstanding news. I hope that is true. I would really love to interview and get a chance to let them know how much I want to be apart of their program!!! Thanks for that update!!

Just had my interview! I wasn't expecting the questions I was asked. They were more ethical questions than anything else. Idk, I hope I did ok....

What kind of questions did they ask you? Did you do a phone interview? I know that you are aloud to do either a phone interview or an in person interview. I was given a call today to discuss more about the application process. Still no new news on whether or not I will receive an interview but the lady I spoke with sounded hopeful!! When did you apply and what are your stats if you don't mind me asking?

I called and talked with the receptionist at TSU. She said they were contacting those that applied in the first batch. Anyone who applied and submitted before Nov 2nd is being reviewed. Once they are done with that group, then they will move on. Still have seats open she said.

I spoke with her too. Sounds like they just reached October. I applied at the end of September but it wasn't mailled until October 12! So, I am hoping to get a phone call soon. AHH My fingers are crossed!! I HOPE I GET IN!!!!!!

I hope i get in!! I should find out next week. :/

When did you guys submit your applications? When were they mailed out to TSU?

My application on PTCAS was mailed out to them on November 1. I heard back from then probably the beginning of December that I was going to have a phone interview..then had it a couple weeks later.

During my interview she made it sound like the order they interviewed people was kind of random and wasn't necessarily based on when your application was submitted.

I found out on January 10th that I got in..so I guess about 2 or 3 weeks. I mean I guess my interview went alright..I didn't remember it going badly but I definitely wasn't fully prepared for some of the questions but overall I think it went pretty well. It was my 3rd interview so I wasn't really nervous or anything. I had some trouble with them and scheduling my interview and they forgot to call me on 3 different occasions so they were extremely apologetic..I'm sure that didn't hurt my chances of getting in either.

Oh ok, yeah my interview went alright too. I might have messed a couple questions up because i wasn't really prepared for them but i hope that doesn't hurt my chances of getting in. And i think i did a pretty good job with my essay too, so i hope thats a plus!

can anyone tell me what kinds of questions were asked in the interview. It would help out a lot! thanks

My interview was fairly straightforward- why did you apply to TSU, why PT, then a few ethical scenarios. One of mine was even- if you had a patient who refused care because their favorite soap was on, what would you do? (which is funny, I had seen that exact question somewhere on the SDN, so I was prepared!). Don't stress about it, my interviewer was really nice, very encouraging after each question. Then after the phone portion was over, they emailed me a question and I had to respond within the hour. Super simple- which area of practice do you see yourself in after you graduate- that was mine. Guess they wanted a writing sample.

For those who got in- are you going? I am having the hardest time with them- I had to turn down another acceptance waiting for their answer, but they couldn't tell me if the Graduate School had accepted me (but the program "recommended" me for acceptance into the Grad School). I've paid the deposit already.

Last week I received some paperwork in the mail from the grad school, but it was so completely unhelpful. It said I was "conditionally accepted" but didn't provide the conditions for my acceptance! I already have my Bachelor's degree, and I've sent my transcripts and GRE score, though I am finishing up my last pre-req, but it didn't mention that. I guess I need to call them, but the interactions I've had with the people in the grad office have been... less than stellar.

I received the same e-mail on tuesday! I have been recommended. I called Mr. Barredo to ask what that was about and he said that pretty much means you are 99% in. I should be receiving my letter from the grad school in the next couple weeks.

As mentioned in an earlier post, there is not much information regarding the program on the website. For those who have been accepted and visited the school......how was the facility? Area? Resources available? Faculty?

If there are any current students that can shed some light on the program......I would greatly appreciate it.

Have you been accepted to TSU's program?

Yes...this past week.

Oh ok. I've been trying to get more information about the program too. I'm thinking about visiting the campus and area after I receive my official acceptance in the mail.

Good luck to everyone applying to TSU and congrats to everyone accepted!

I'm a PT student at TSU, and thought I may be able to address a few of the questions...

- The faculty is great. There have been some transitions in the past year, but the faculty who are currently teaching are incredibly knowledgeable, clinically based professors. One of my favorite things has been the clinical information that the professors integrate into lectures...it definitely helps you relate the info to everyday use. They do NOT mess around...pretty much a zero tolerance policy. You're in grad school, and you're certainly treated like it. You will be challenged and you will study more than you ever have before.

- The facilities have certainly seen better days. They're worn, but they absolutely serve their purpose.

- I'm not sure why the program doesn't list more info on the website, but I understand your frustration, as I felt the same way when I applied. I can't recall exactly how each year breaks down, but the 1st two years follow the same basic format:
5-10 weeks of class in the summer (for 1st year, this is anatomy lab/lecture)
Fall and spring semester as usual
5 clinicals all together, from 5-14 weeks, starting the summer before 2nd year

I've loved my time at TSU so far, and highly value the education I'm receiving, along with the amazing people I've met. And I've gotta say, Nashville's pretty amazing!

I can't think of anything else, but feel free to shoot me questions if you have any!

Does anyone know how much out of state tuition is for TNSTATE? I am having a hard time determining the amount from the website. I might just have to call them tomorrrow.

Did you find out? I was sent a packet of info, haven't quite figured it out yet.

Yes...it comes out to 29,966 for out of state tuition for the year
according to the chart I was instructed to look at.

Summer (9hrs) - 8,756
Fall (15hrs) - 10,605
Spring (15hrs) - 10,605

Mine seemed to take forever to arrive, I was told that the Graduate School Admissions office is under-staffed. Took about a month from the time the PT program accepted me.

My letter was frustratingly ambiguous, though; it told me the Grad School "conditionally accepted" me, and then it listed no conditions! I emailed Dr. Barredo and it was just that I successfully complete the last pre-req I'm currently finishing. He also said more detailed information would be sent out in the latter part of March.

Does anyone know the program start date?
