I was just wondering how you guys go about answering questions.
I've been going through USMLE-RX and i answer questions wrong that i KNOW i should be getting right on every practice test.
As a example, today I was reading a question stem that obviously suggested a patient had hemarthrosis. From this i inferred that he must have a problem with secondary clotting (formation of a fibrin clot), and from their looked as the possible answers.
The answer choices had to do with
Autosomal dominant vWF disease
Autosomal recessive vWF disease
Autosomal dominant Factor VIII deficiency
Autosomal recessive Factor VIII deficiency
X-Linked Recessive Factor VIII deficiency
Obviously i crossed of the vWF... but after that i was stumped! I didn't know how to figure out which inheritance the Factor VIII deficiency must have had.
Now, the answer turned out to be XLR Factor VIII deficiency, since that is the inheritance of hemophilia A, but that's exactly my problem!
If you ask me what the inheritance of hemophilia A is, i could tell you its XLR every day of the week. But for some reason I just dont piece this kind of information together. I have issues where if you ask me a question discreetly/directly, i can answer it all day long, but when i have to infer it through a question stem, or you ask me the question in a way i havent seen before....
how can i address this shortcoming?
