This afternoon my aadsas updated to:

Columbia University College of Dental Medicine (CUL) NY 09/23/2011 Received/Under Review test1

Does anyone know what test1 means in the status defined column? Also, it's interesting that it took 2 months for it to show up, since the status update is from 9/23/11.

Thanks for any responses!

I got an update recently also, invited for interview, 3 months after the invite...

Got the same thing on mine...not thinking too much of it since my stats are not on par with Columbia...

11/3 Received and Test1. I see the same thing.

Anyone got an idea?

i got it today too but it appeared as of 7/29...thats a while back!

Now my stats are not the best but could it be that they sent me an invite a while ago and i just never got it?

I don't think it means anything. I got an e-mail from columbia today saying they received my application today and it showed up on AADSAS today, says received 11/17, review/under review with the test1 status.

I'm pretty sure no one reviewed my app in the 3 hour difference between showing up on AADSAS and the test1 status appearing.

I checked my aadsas this afternoon and seen Test1 I have no idea what it means either!?

If anyone does know let me know thanks!

Hopefully it means good news is about to be released!

I read in the thread that NguyenDDS posted that ADCOMS can put a little description in the box next to the status (similar to the HUGE message that BU posted in theirs). Columbia probably just typed "test1" in their description box for whatever reason. I'm sure it doesn't mean anything.

i got that update and my secondary fee isnt even paid, dont think it means anything?

Same here, 7/29.

Approaching almost 4 months now. Expecting rejection. 🙁

Maybe they were using the web page for the first time and tried to see what happens by putting "test1" sign.

EXACT same situation. 7/29 date...stats that are right on the cusp of Columbia...

It will be interesting to see how this pans out, but I don't think it means anything necessarily. Plus, it's not like anyone will ever really know how admissions goes about these things. C'est la vie.

Mine too.

Let's form a club.

We can put it on our AADSAS application next cycle.

I would say that it's just Columbia preparing to update your status on Dec 1st and I wouldn't read too much into it/get super anxious about it.

I have it on good authority that Columbia has only seriously considered applicants with a 22 or higher AA thus far (unless they are an under represented minority, of course). That should come as no surprise I would say, considering the PreDent stats and what we know about the school from the past several years. Duh.

What I did learn that was somewhat interesting is that they are just now starting to look at 21s and even potentially 20s (in the future, though probably not) depending on the need to give out more interview spots into January, February and beyond.

And yes- it is essentially that cut and dry. They look at your AA first, see if you meet that criterion, and then consider you from there. They set aside the applicants who did not make the first cut at 22, and then tend to cycle back through the lower scores later to fill in the gaps. At that point everything comes into play and there is, naturally, a much more thorough evaluation of your file. I guess none of this is too groundbreaking, and sort of common sense...but it was interesting to hear it from a reliable "source".

Who is your "source"?

Who is your "source"?

Someone important at the institution in question. Of course I can't tell you who. Believe it or don't believe it: doesn't matter to me. In fact it doesn't matter if anyone believes it or not, because it's not like this knowledge will give us the power to change anything at this stage in the game. I'm not just pulling this out of my ass though. I only wanted to pass along a little bit of knowledge. Maybe if I put it this way you will believe me...what could I possibly gain from making this up? Ha.

I mean it's sort of common sense anyways, so what's not to believe? Though I can understand that you'd want to know details.

If anything, I think it's just sort of a comforting fact to know. Que sera, sera.

This is probably the most likely reason.

Guys, I don't know what they are doing. I got the same thing and I think my stats are pretty good (GPA 3.9 and AA of 22 ) with research and lots of extracurricular (shadowing, volunteering, TA , etc) and I did have it complete by end of august. I got a status update of Test1. Let's see what they update on dec 1.

People have been asking this question on here for the past 3 days. Just call them ay???????

If you do a search on SDN you'll see that it happened last year as well. So it's not a new thing. Who knows what it means. :S Hopefully it means we've passed "test1" or whatever they use as their first criterion haha.

That said, I've heard nothing from Columbia since the app complete email back in early Sept. And I thought I was competitive. Might be because I'm Canadian. 🙁

You know, that source makes sense. Columbia has the highest DAT average. Also, going on interviews to various dental schools, I keep hearing from other interviewees that they interviewed at Columbia and had a great DAT score (22+) but not the greatest GPA.

I finally made the call. The lady said "test1 means your application is under review"
but I thought it has been under review for the last 3 months... who knows?!?!
