So what are other schools testing schedules like?
At DMU, we are almost two months in and have already had 4 biochem tests and 1 anatomy test (and a pod med test). Last biochem was yesterday and the next one is a week from monday. I personally like having stuff broken up into small sections.

What is it like at other schools?

You beat me to this... I was on the verge of asking this myself. Here at TU we have tests every week and I mean every week. Classes started August 25 I believe and so far we've had 4 tests with a 5th on the way in a few days.

Classes started at Western on August 10th.

We have had 2 Gross Anatomy Midterms with a Final this Monday. We have quizzes everyday after lab. H & N Anatomy starts on Tues!

We had a final in an Intro to Medicine Class - online 😀

We have had a test in our Podiatric Medicine class with another one this Friday.

We have a Physician and Society class (yawn) that we have had 1 quiz and 1 midterm so far and a few interprofessional group projects.

We also have our Essentials to Clinical Medicine class which we have been tested in numerous clinical scenarios by standardized patients -no "written" tests though.

Overall, all our classes have the 'midterms and final' approach instead of being broken up into many smaller tests.

thats a lot of classes. so far we have only had biochem and anatomy. Biochem is over on the 19th, then cell bio finishes the semester. Anatomy didnt start until 3 weeks into school and goes all semester. Pod Med meets randomly, usually only an hour or two a week, sometimes not at all

I think the good thing about having exams so often is that you are constantly reminded about the seriousness and the nature of the business. Although the material is divided into sections, the volumes are not necessarily always small since in some classes you have comprehensive finals. The downside to this is that if you are not a quick learner or an effective time manager you can easily get screwed. Each exam can be as high as 25% of your final grade. As per the midterm and final approach, testing is less frequent but you still get very large volumes when you do get tested. The downside being that a lazy student can slack and try to cram at the last minute. I would like to know which learning or testing style is more effective. Of course in the end everything evens out and we will all be DPMs. Just my opinion.

We've had 2 biochem exams, 1 structure&function exam, and 1 anatomy exam (this morning) at Scholl. Our first essentials of clinical reasoning test is Thursday. Each biochem exam is about 3 weeks apart, which is great because there is so much to study. S&F, anatomy, and ECR are about a month apart but we typically only meet for these classes ~3 times a week compared to everyday for biochem. The next few weeks are going to be interesting...7 tests (including 1st anatomy practical) until quarter break on 11/6.

Don't forget about immunology/virology that starts in November...I think its a sleeper that everyone is forgetting about. It is not on our Outlook yet. I hope I am interpreting something wrong but I believe it starts in November and finishes next year. Its a 6 credit hour class too, hefty.

What are your other classes worth credit wise?

Structure/Function is weighted the most (11), Anatomy (9), Biochem (7), ECR (5). I don't really understand why anatomy isn't worth more-we have the darn class until April (S&F ends in January)!

I'm not about the other first year classes. I'm afraid to look that far ahead!

At CSPM (for first year students at least) we have weekly tests...Monday mornings at 8 which are cumulative of the previous 2 weeks. They include all of our first semester courses (i.e. anatomy, biochem, histo, embryo, and physio). We took lab practicals in anatomy and histo on the 23rd of Sept. and have another set coming up at the end of this month....I love Mondays....😉

at Barry, the faculty did a pretty good job of splitting up the tests so that we'll only have 1 (occasionally 2) a week this semester. we also have to take weekly histo and monthly biochem quizzes in addition to the tests. not too bad and pretty manageable IMO

At NYCPM we started Aug. 24, I think, and we have now had 13 tests.
