anyone thinks A&M will send out e-mail on Saturday?

has anyone heard back yet? i see that you guys were anxiously waiting last night..i was as well, and tried not to get on sdn since its all so nerve wrecking. haha so do they send out emails too? i hate checking my mailbox and see it empty. =( ugh

I wonder if they really had a problem sending email or if they just haven't finished the decisions yet.

i plan on traveling out of the U.S. for the first time ever this summer if i get in, somewhere fun like the bahamas! or japan! or france!

if i dont make it, its work full time to start paying off my school loans. no fun for me! haha

My husband and I went on a cruise for our honeymoon. We went to Key West, Cozumel and Costa Maya. We were suppose to stop in Cancun, but our ship couldn't doc there on Christmas day. If you ask me, that's the way to travel but we don't want to take one with our daughter until she gets a little older and is able to clearly say her name and our names. It's a lot of fun though, and very inexpensive considering all that is included. Plus, you don't have to drive anywhere, you just go to bed and wake up somewhere new.

I'm down the street about a block... and my internet has been working fine.

I'm sure they've made decisions though... seems like they would have done that earlier this week.

ehh it was wishful thinking 😀. Hope everyone is having an OK weekend other than this!

You people need to go out and drink more while you still can. They haven't mailed anything. No one will hear anything until next week at the EARLIEST! One thing about South Texas is that everything is manana manana. Honestly if you heard anything before May I'd be surprised (LOL) just kidding. There are people who didn't get into to school until August. YOU MIGHT BE ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE!! And in the end, it all will work out. So go drink something. 🙂

You know there exists the possibility that nobody on this thread was accepted to A&M pharmacy school...

Nothing like a dose of antithesis to spice things up a bit... :meanie:

Even if that were true, people always appear out of nowhere and create an account just to say that they were accepted.

what for? to make themselves feel good? LOL wat losers. try again next year

Oops... I meant that, if none of us posting here got in, but some other people actually did, some of those people would create accounts just to say that they'd were accepted.

Basically, we can be very confident that acceptances did not go out already.

Knick, with almost 1400 posts, you certainly have the authority to posit whatever you deem probable. How the he** did you accumulate such a supernumerous quantity of posts? You deserve the honorific, "Knick The Untouchable."

In all honesty though, it is inconceivable to me that neither one of us "PHARMACY NERxDS" has not received an acceptance notification from A&M.

👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Believe it or not, there are some people on here who have been a member for half as long as I have, but they have twice as many posts.

Just out of curiosity, why do you guys want to go to the A&M school so badly? Other than the fact that it is, of course, A&M. 🙂

Honestly, I have wanted to go there ever since they first mentioned opening a pharmacy school in Kingsville. Unfortunately, it took them longer to get it up and running so I completed another degree before actually applying. I didn't realize how bad I wanted to go though until I had the interview and actually got to see how amazing the program really is and how caring and enthusiastic all of the professors and staff are. They truly make you want to be a part of their program. I was especially impressed with Patricia. She made my confidence level go from about a 1 (low) to a 10 in her little 5 minute speech before the interview. I really feel the school has a lot to offer. JMO.

Plus, I've already been wearing marroon for some time, just because all of the people I work with are huge UT fans. I like to get a rise out of them. I wouldn't mind actually getting to be an Aggie.

Take care.

-Proximity to the RGV
-Pristine facility
-Faculty and staff made a helluva first impression
-Opportunity to be a part of something seminal
-Chance to raise the bar against all other reputable pharmacy schools

All of those apply to me except location.

I agree with Knick except... I suppose the location is applicable to me since I am already here.

Way to say it all gendr777... thats basically exactly what I was thinking but couldn't really verbalize.

To our new pharm student member... the whole "it's A&M" was a total non-factor (if not deterrent - jk).

I've been thinking... The location of the school (ie, South Texas), its location on a campus, and the fact that we have summers off can help in the future for jobs in Texas.

Those of us who don't speak Spanish would pick some up if we were there for a few years. We can also use the summers to either audit or just sit in on some Spanish classes for the formal learning.

When it comes time for a job application, putting down English + some proficiency in Spanish for languages spoken should be a huge plus.

What do you guys think?

Ive been here for two years and I haven't picked up a whole lot. I had 3 yrs in high school that if I retook now I would get more from though.

I can order in restaurants in Spanish if need be... but generally don't since it usually isn't necessary and could be construed as condescending.

One thing you didn't mention Knick, is that some of your rotations/rounds or whatever will be in places where you will likely run into some language situations.

I agree it could be an interesting addendum to future job applications but don't bank on getting too fluent... some of my Hispanic friends who even grew up in corpus or in the valley their whole lives know less than I do. But... like you say if you supplemented the experience with formal courses you might get pretty good at it.

2 years in jr. high, 2 years in highschool, 2 semesters in college and I've learned more in the last 2 years than I ever did in all my classes. My daughter's babysitter doesn't speak much english so I have had to learn a lot to communicate with her. I have to admit, it has been a lot easier than it ever was in school. Plus, people in the valley speak more Tex-Mex as opposed to the proper spanish they teach you in school so it is actually more beneficial to learn from an individual.

I brought this up at the interview and was told that they were working on getting some type of training included in the program. I know that a lot of software translates the sigs/drug interactions/etc into spanish but you will need to know the basics to communicate. One of my biggest "foot in the mouth" moments in pharmacy was when someone came in to get a laxative and I thought she was asking for something for fleas. For those of you who speak spanish, you'll know what I mean because the words are very similar.

Don't worry though Knick, as desparate as we are for pharmacists in the valley, we don't care if you speak spanish or not. Most places have at least one technician or clerk that is bilingual who can help you out.

Take care.

This is true. I learned most from my first roomate last year who was actually from Lubbock attending TAMUK.

Anybody read the article on recycled meds? This is something that I have wondered about for years. We have patient's families who bring in meds after a patient passes away and they want us to give the meds to someone who can use them. Of course we tell them we can't and simply dispose of the meds for them. I know this is not quite what the article was talking about but there are a lot of meds that are simply destroyed when they could be used to help people who can't afford to purchase them. I had one family bring in 16 bottles of medication that they had just picked up 2 days before the family member died.

It seems like such a waste especially when I have several older customers who have to decide between buying food or their heart medication. I hope that programs like the ones discussed will become more widespread. I think they could really benefit a lot of people.

I don't want a dead guys pills... who knows what he died from... who knows who handled his meds... did they wash their hands... did he cough all over them?

I meant the meds that were talked about in the article. They were talking about those that were donated from long-term care facilities where the meds are blister packed. The patient doesn't actually come into contact with the meds since they are dosed out by nurses. They also made reference to those meds donated by doctor's offices which probably mean the samples.

When I was talking about meds coming back to the pharmacy I was just referencing the amount of waste. Sorry if that came out wrong. It's just sad sometimes to see how much we have to dispose of when there are people that can't afford them in the first place.

I promise I will never try to give you some dead guys meds Rob.

Oh... I think I read about recycling very expensive AIDS drugs from people who have died. They go out of country, though (like much of our expired medical items).

It's ok... I might be interested if they were brand name though... generics don't work on me... and I'm allergic to them... all of them. (sarcasm)

Seriously, however, nursing homes are super picky about their blister packs... I've had experience.

lets take bets on when we will be getting acceptance notifications

i say monday around 5pm via email

anyone? anyone?

If you guys missed that other thread, here are a couple modified emoticons that I've made. Feel free to use them. I'll take requests for modifications of existing emoticons (I'm not skilled enough to do original art).

It really seems like they'd get it out on Monday afternoon, but I'm not going to get my hopes up.

Morning everyone! just got back from nascar! it was super fun! now back to stressing over the email lol! hopefully we all hear something tomorrow!

😀YEEEEHAAAAWWWWW!!!!!!! I need some BENZOs baby!!!!!!!!!! Too much anxiety!!!! (JK...NOT) I've got my money on 7-8 pm Monday. Anyone want to call, raise or fold??? 😀

I will go ahead and say that people will receive e-mails from 3PM to 9:30PM in a long line of names.

I bet we're going to have at least one person who has their spam filter eat their acceptance e-mail and not find out until the snail mail gets in.

Im going with today at 2:30 pm...

I really hope it is today. If it isn't, somebody should call tomorrow, teary eyed and choked up and say, " *sniffle* you guys lied to me *sniffle* "

I assume that means you are volunteering for that job?

I called them this morning. The lady told me I would hear something in the "next couple days." She said that the delay is because they have been waiting on the dean's approval. So I confirmed that something should be sent out by Tuesday, and she said they were working on it as we spoke.
.... lol in other words, still no news and the wait continues

i think today... she is just covering herself... how long does it take for the dean to look down the list and grunt approvingly?

👍 Thank you, RXpanther. You are a hero and a martyr! 👍

Maybe they are in a deadlock over the decision of a single student... We're all waiting because they can't agree on said student. Hopefully said student isn't me.

Haha, yeah that sounds like a quick minute to rectify things doesn't it?

As Knick alluded to a few days ago, and as I'm sure as been a brooding worry, this sounds like that they're still working on decisions. I'm not sure exactly what they would be talking about. Perhaps they noticed that some interviewers gave consistently 24-25 point scores while a few gave consistently 1-5 point scores on their interview and now they're trying to standardize those scores? Or, perhaps they have several interviewees with the same overall score on their application and now they're trying to separate them through subjective means (experience, research, etc...) Personally, I think that they're deliberating on a few ties that resulted when a few of their first choices opted for another school and now they're trying to determine the next person in line.

--Garfield3

Ties should be settled in a cage fight ala Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome. Two people enter, one leaves. We should do politics like that as well.

I'm in.

anyone else wanna martyr themselves with a call?

What numbers do we have? I found this one:

Student Affairs - Admissions, HSC-College of Pharmacy: (361) 593-4271

One call right before 5:00 would be great so that we can know if we might hear something today.

Acceptances are out!!!! I'm in!!!!!!!! YAY!!!!

GOOD LUCK Everyone!!!!
