Texas Interviews 2008: Part 2

Hey Guys

Just wondering what my chances are for interviews/acceptances at this point in the game. My TMDSAS initial processing date was 7/25, BUT I retook the MCAT on August 6th (just received my score and got a 31). That new score has just been sent to the schools. I have a GPA of 3.78 (science 3.7) and good research/decent clinical/good LORs. At this point, I'm scared as hell because of how late in the game I am. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

If all of your stuff is in, I would expect you to see several interviews.
 
I haven't heard anything from the schools that don't have secondaries (UTH, UTMB, and UTSA). Do they send out anything saying your file is complete or anything? Or is the first communication an interview invite?

some students got a confirmation from UTMB, but i didnt. I havent recieved any confirmation from any texas schools, except for tech, for which you can check status online. For UTMB, my first communicaton was the interview email. good luck

I got no confirmations from any of those schools. Their websites say if you are complete on TMDSAS, you are complete at those schools as well.
 
thanks....I interviewed at TCOM and I'll be at A&M this week, but UTMB and UTSA are the ones I'm anxious to hear back from.

You and I are in a similar boat with interviews at TCOM and A&M. I'd really like to hear from San Antonio and Houston.
 
which texas schools have secondary application fees?
 
So DID anyone else get an e-mail from UTMB about their MD/PhD program??

I did, but I interviewed there yesterday. It's just a mass e-mail. I wouldn't pay too much attention to it.

I was poking around Southwestern's site, and I noticed that they had a link to Hotel and Travel Information. Although the first sentence talks about applicants, it seems that the preferred rates would be for employees who could direct bill Southwestern...? Anyone have a clue about this - I checked the rates and the cheapest are a good bit lower than I could find elsewhere.
 
Have any OOS applicants received interviews at UTHSCSA? Do they wait to interview the OOS applicants last?

Need an input on my stats. VR 9 PS 10 BS 9 WS P. Overall GPA 3.67, science 3.76. Over 4 years (2000 hours) of clinical volunteer, 1 year research, research awards, scholarships etc. Supported myself through college.
Processed 6/13, retook MCAT 7/24 (previous score was 25S). Only had TCOM interview so far. Do you guys think I may get more interviews or did I retake MCAT too late? Getting worried here. Appreciate any input 🙂

I'd suspect that you'll get more once they get your new scores in. the interview season is far from over

You've got respectable numbers. July's not late. The interview season is far from over.
 
Thanks armybound! tmdsas got my new scores on 8/24. I called all schools last week of Aug and they had my scores. So maybe an invite next week orrr the week after. should I still have hope?

Feline, I'm in the same boat as you but my MCAT that I retook was in since 8/16 and nothing yet. Hopefully something will turn up soon for the both of us.
 
I hope so todbaker37. My LMFU updated to 8/29/07 (first change since June) and I thought it might be UTHSCSA, but nope. nuthin so far 🙁
 
There seems to be a dangerous lull in the invites...it doesn't seem like the schools are inviting in big batches anymore. Unless no one is posting their invites?

Extremely small pool on SDN. You might see at most 10% here on SDN? Definitely nothing you should base conclusions off of.

The negotiated rates are what they'll charge you, you don't need to be on direct billing. My tip, pick the Ramada Inn at Love Field if that's where you're flying in. They have a free 24-hour shuttle with a 5 mile radius that covers the campus, so you don't have to pay for transportation if you don't know anybody there.

If you do DFW, they'll still pick you up for $20, which is cheaper than the ~$50 that taxis will charge.

Thanks for the answer, MassTransport. Did you just call the hotel and tell them you were a SW applicant and they gave you the rate?
 
Yup. Make sure the "valid until" date hasn't passed, I got shafted calling a Raddison.

In the same spirit, did anyone else here who has interviewed at UT Houston leave more impressed than you might have expected? I was impressed with facilities/students etc. and definitely think this was my best interview experience yet.

Don't call; that's just the way Baylor works. You'll hear but don't be worried if you wait a month.

Were there any SDNers at the Baylor interview on friday? I was the first year complaining about the smell in the anatomy lab - though I guess that doesn't narrow it down.
 
I had a quick question for everyone that has interviewed at UT-Houston - did you guys get a phone call from a med student after your interview day?

Just wondering because I interviewed there on friday and got a random (but nice) phone call from a third year. Curious to see if this was just protocol. Thanks
