Hey,

I know there are a few attendings here who practice in Texas. I need to take the JP exam sometime this month...

Any tips? I found an online review course for 149$... is this something I should do or is there something else I should be looking at?

How tough is the test and how far ahead do I need to schedule it (do spots fill up quick)?

Any other tips or things I should know about the logistics of the test (how long, how many questions, computerized, how long do scores come out, etc...)?

Thanks!

I did the review course, it's good but possibly overkill. The test is specific, but not quite the over-hyped dream killer that it is sometimes portrayed as. It's computerized, you get your results immediately, and you can take it at your local Pearson center. It's 50 questions, and if you run out of time something seriously wrong has happened. You can schedule it after you've been approved by the board to take it, and should be able to schedule it almost at will. If you can get ahold of a practice test, that should be sufficient.

I am not sure if there are mutliple of these type review courses out there, but I did this one: http://www.texasjurisprudenceprep.com/ and it was recommended by several of my other friends in Texas...

I spent the two days before the test going over the online course. I went in the third day around noon and the test took me probablt 15-20 minutes tops. I agree the course was probably an overkill.... but I DO think you need to study some for this test. I hear there is a 'red book' out there you can order/read... but its a ton of pages and I would rather click around on a computer screen.

I thank you guys so much! Now I know what I'm up against.

I will do the online course like you mentioned above... I prefer to go overkill than barely pass.

You'll never get back any time you spend on studying for that lame exam. It's not hard, but there are some minutiae that you'll either know from reading, or you'll miss them.
I read a book (orange one published by UT) in the two days before as well.

Really all you need is the UTMB medical jurisprudence book. Do the review questions at the end. Start in the back and work your way forward. Not duplicate but very very very similar. That's all we here in texas use. None of my co-residents paid for a review course.

Alright fellas... I'm taking mine tomorrow at 6p central time.

Wish me luck!

I did the entire JP online course twice and all the quizzes twice. I'll do the whole thing one more time tomorrow. I'm not taking any chances.

So I just took the JP exam. I followed EM Rebuilder's advice and took the online TJP course. Man... that course is a life saver. You need to study for this exam otherwise it'll annihilate you with the little details.

I didn't read the red book or any manuals, just did the online course 3x and the quizzes 1-6 3x. Got a 98% on the exam.

For anyone else thinking of taking the JP, do the online course.

I give it 2 👍.
