texas license transfer

i heard texas is a lengthy process. it can take a number of months. please let me know of any tips for license transfer.

1. i applied for reciprocity at texas web portal. $255
2. i submitted the preliminary app on nabp. $375
3. the texas web says i can register for the mpje exam now, on nabp web... i don't see how that's possible without ATT authorization to test?

also should i buy a book on amazon, or buy the book from the texas website?
