Hello, All, I am a long-time lurker at SDN. I am hoping to gain an MD acceptance into a TX school for the class of 2018. So far, I have interviewed at almost all schools in TX - seven schools including Baylor as an IS applicant. Since I was hopeful for an acceptance at the TX school, I applied to only three AMCAS schools - Baylor, Dartmouth and Yale, perhaps my mistake here. I also interviewed at Dartmouth but silence from Yale so far. However, I didn't pre-match to any TX schools and no post-interview news from Dartmouth. It has been disheartening to see all the TX pre-matches at SDN and I'm starting to lose optimism for the match either. My quandary is that some of the summer research programs, grad schools, etc have deadlines approaching and I need to make spme decisions soon since it may include registering for/taking a GRE. So should I register for the GRE, apply for the summer internship programs etc so not to miss the deadlines? Or should I assume that I will get into one of the TX schools through the match or the WL movements and not worry too much? For those who are in the sames shoes, let me know what your plans are at this point. BTW, my stats: ~3.82 GPA and 32 MCAT.

It's always good to have a backup, and I'd always work on that backup plan until you have guaranteed an acceptance.

With your numbers and interviews, you'll probably match or at least get a spot off a waitlist, unless there's something about you that would have really turned people off in an interview.

Yeah I wouldn't worry too much unless you messed up on your interviews somehow. But it is always good to have some sort of back up plan. I would be very surprised if you didn't match somewhere in Texas.

Thank you so much for the responses. I think I will start worrying seriously if I don't match on Feb 3. My toss up first choice would be UT-SW or UTMB. I am considering ranking UTMB #1 and this way, once matched to UTMB, I won't have to worry about the UTSW WL movements. Since I don't have the SDN level of high stats, I should feel blessed with my interviews. But the wait is still agonizing and there is always the question of "what ifs." And I don't think I interviewed badly. In two interviews in two different schools, the interviewers told me that they look forward to seeing me next year but then silence everywhere....:-(

You say the choice between UTSW and UTMB is a toss up and if that is the case and this method is truly the only one you can come up with to break the tie, go for it. However if UTSW is actually your top choice and you're only questioning that bc you don't think your stats will get you a spot, I say rank it (UTSW) first. The last thing you want to do is prematurely count yourself out and screw yourself out of a spot at your top choice bc you lacked confidence at the finish line.

If you match into your 2nd ranked school, you can withdraw your application from #1 (someone please correct me if I'm wrong) if at some point you want everything to be final and settled. At the end of the day, do what's best for you... Just my 2 cents.

I second this. Match UTSW first. It's a great school and we'll be classmates in the fall!

Thanks for your confidence in me. Dbate, what made you decide on UTSW as opposed to Baylor? Is it just the fact Baylor is in Houston?

I second ranking UTSW first.
I am not sure if you can get into UTSW if you get off the waitlist and have it as a #2 but you got into your #1.... you might want to double check this.

This. Always rank your top pick first, you will be auto-withdrawn from all lower ranked schools if you match a school on match day.

Rank everything in order of your preference, that is by far the best strategy for the match. And I agree with the other posters that you probably have nothing to worry about - don't stress too much

Blue Label, thanks for your vote of confidence. I hope Feb. 3 brings all of us good news!
