I am getting ready to input my ranking for schools, however I have a question. If I rank a school as #1 and end up getting accepted into #2 instead but after #1 accepts me as well, do I automatically lose my chance to stay with #2?

The reason I ask is because I am having a tough time deciding which school to rank # 1. I feel like I have a better chance to end up matching at the school I'm ranking #2 but could possibly also end up getting off the waitlist for school # , so I just want to know if I'll get another chance to reevaluate which school I prefer or will I be stuck with my #1 ranking.

As far as I understand it, if your #1 ranked school pulls you off their waitlist after the match, and you matched to another lower ranked school during the match, then you have some time (2 weeks) to decided which acceptance you want to keep. Per TMDSAS:

"With the exception of offers received during the pre-match period, only the most unusual of circumstances justify an applicant's holding a place in the entering class of more than one US school for more than two weeks since this may adversely affect other applicants."

Thanks. Another question I have that maybe you know. I remember hearing a faculty member at one of the schools say that the match not only has to do with where the school ranks you but also where you rank the school. The way they explained it made it seem that applicants who rank a certain school higher than you ranked it will receive the match even if that school ranked you higher on their list.

Does that seem right or did I misinterpret what they were saying?

Make your list based on what YOU want. You will get matched with your highest ranked school that also accepts you; that's why if, for example, you really want to go to UTSW but for whatever reason think it'll be a longshot, you still rank UTSW as #1. If they accept you then you match there and if they don't then nothing changes. If you don't rank them #1, though, then there's a chance that you COULD'VE matched there but, instead, matched at whatever school(s) you ranked above it.

Thanks, appreciate the info 👍
