hey guys, this is kind of an opinion question for those of you who have been through the process or know others who have been. how many tx interviews do you think on average is a safe bet for you to think youll get into at least 1 school. obviously, i know you can have get in even with only 1 great interview, but im just seeing whether i have a good shot with 3 interviews. thanks.

I would say three is a good number, I had two last year and got waitlisted...I am a lot more confident this year about getting in.

STAC... where did you get waitlisted last year? Did it show that on the website when you checked, or did you find out later from a letter or email that you were waitlisted. Thanks... I am getting nervous myself even though I shouldn't be, at least I hope I will get in!!!! I am glad this year was better for you STAC.

I got waitlisted last year. On the match day, nothing showed up under "school matched" . I had to wait all weekend and call the schools to find out if I was waitlisted. A letter came a week later.

The worst thing was that SDN was down. There was no way for me to know if the match results were up so I sat at my computer all night until midnight checking and rechecking. Then I found out the match went up at 1030 or so. Anyway, it would be nice if there could be some message saying, "the match is up and you didn't match, but you might be waitlisted"

crossing my fingers that sdn is up that night!

Tuesday,

I am sorry that happened and all. Did you get in off the waitlist eventually? Happy New Year to you!

I would say that three is a really good number. With that said, I know some of my classmates in San Antonio just had one Texas interview and got in. There certainly isn't a magic number so don't feel to bad if you didn't get three. Good Luck

hey pepe,
san antonio is my top choice. have any insight on ways to improve my chances with them? would it help to write a letter to dr jones? thanks

Dookblue,
It certainly won't hurt ya to send him a letter stating your intent. I know there is some strategy involved with the match in that you want to rank schools high that you feel will also want to rank you high. How the match works in nuts in bolts I don't know, but I do know it's not exactly like the residency match where you just rank your favorites in order. I hope it works out for you and I just want to say that I've really enjoyed my time here at San Antonio and feel prepared for residency. If you have any questions feel free to ask.

I was waitlisted in San Antonio and it does not show you on the website if you are or not. I e-mailed the two schools where I interviewed and asked them. Then I think I waited about a week before I found out that I was waitlisted through the email from Dr. Jones and then they send you a letter asking you if you want to still be considered as an alternate. That letter came ~5days later after the email I received.
I think that the timing is perfect if you don't force it too much and let yourself get too worked up...which is easy to do. Best wishes to you! It all will work out fine.
