Why is it that it is so hard for texas residents to get admission into texas pharmacy schools? This is like a general experience amongst us residents(from what i have heard). Is it that they want out of state residents who will have to pay much higher?

Do y'all know? 😕

I thought it was the other way around. I thought it was hard for out of state residents to get into Texas schools. 😕 I know that UT only admits about 3 of them a year.

Everyone keeps telling me that i have more chances out of state from thier experiences. Also, considering i am Nigerian, TSU has decided (they say!) that they will be taking no more Nigerians becuz apparently, we are flooding thier programs and "taking over" (whatever that means).

as far as I know Texas schools prefer Texas residents over anyone else, and after that give preference to students from surrounding states (NM, OK, AR, LA).

texas schools get more funding for instate students so they mainly take instate residents. last year ut only accepted 3 out of state people and 1 forgein person. i think that this is pretty similar for the rest of the public schools (i dont know about TSU)

TSU is the only Texas school doing that Nigerian crap. That's why they have alot of their first year students on probation. They don't give admission to who is most deserving, they give African American that could barely survive one semester as a professional students. Dr Milton needs to stop.
UH on the other hand is just annoying. They obviously don't admit alot of blacks because they are racist. I have a friend that got into TSU and UH last year but decieded not to go to UH (which was by the way her first choice ) because they were so racist during her interview.
I don't think texas tech is as biased though.
UT is another story if you are black.
Texas A&M will be just like tech in the nearest future. they invited alot of deserving students for interview this year both black, white, asians, hispanic and what have you.

That sounds a little racist and unethical to me. They won't admit an applicant just because of their nationality?? I thought this was the land of equality 😕
I wasn't gonna apply there anyways 😡
Besides we can't help it if we're smart and "taking over" their program 🙄 😉

about the original post, personally I'm only applying to Texas Schools and one out of state (still in consideration) mainly because i dont think i can afford out of state tuition. And most school tend to only accept 1-3% students form out-of-state.

My girlfriend has been accepted to UH, Tech, and TSU. She wants to go to TSU, because it is very affordable. She tells me horrible things about the school how unprofessional they are. It probably is best that you don't get in there, what are your chances of graduating on time? From what she tells me, it seem that professors are on power trip and are interested only in vandettas against students (funny) very unprofessional. That they take delight in failing students. With smaller graduating class & falling passing rate, it seem that be very soon they would be on PROBATION just like HOWARD and when that happens, UH will vanquish the school like they have wanted to for a long time!!! Go COUGAR!

For all you out there are concerned about predominantly white schools, I would say that just put your best foot foward and apply. If you know your $hit you have an equal chance of being accepted just as any other race. I know there are quotas to be met as far as race is concerned, however, do not be preoccupied with TSU. I just wish my lady would come to Tech with me then TSU can go to hell for all I care.

Peace!!!

there is nothing racist about UH.. and i am black, Nigerian, went to an interview there, did not feel ANY kind of racism and got accepted... AND, the Dean is black(Nigerian) too!... ALSO.. on the TSU thing, i've heard it, and don't believe it, I honestly think it's a rumor.... There is no doubt that it's much easier for Texas residents to get into any Texas schools.... and stop accusing innocent people(that you may have never met) of racism... please.

Goodluck to you for being accepted by UH. they are racist for all I know. I know that their dean is a Nigerian but he does not have much of a say in the school. I know a guy that transfered to a school in Arkansa because they made life unbearing for him as the only black student in his class at UH couple of years back. :scared:

I have a friend (Nigerian) at UH college of Pharmacy and she also complains about some racism in the college. However, she doesnt let it affect her performance.

Your interview may have gone very well, but your overall view of the college (as far as discrimination is concerned) might change over time.

Wow! i dint know all this would escalate into a talk about racism, but i guess that is what all this is all about. I just hate having to pay out of state tuition. Not like i really love texas anyway....... 🙄

Well racism is here and I guess here to stay in its own ugly ways. What is happening at TSU if I understand your ealier post is some kind of racism (except that it is between two black cultures African Americans and Africans) so you may call it culturalism. Any way do not fret about TSU, Pharmacy Admission is highly competitive but is extra in Texas (may be 'cos it is cheaper to school here), I guess that could explain why they have to keep the AA in the school; where else would they go?

If you are very interested in TSU, just stand out in all your requirements and who knows you might get in, BUT HAVE A PLAN B (like other schools)

Good Luck!

I know someone with good stats and did not even get considered at TSU (no interview invitation). Did they just look at their last name and assumed they didnt want them? Something really needs to change at TSU.

Okay, is TSU an HBCU or something? What kinds of people are discriminated, foreigners in general? It's unbelievable.

I go to UT, and I don't think there is a problem with applying to Texas schools.

I thought it was the other way around too because Texas schools place more emphasis on accepting Texas residents.

Yes TSU is an HBCU

With all this talk about racism and how hard it is for out-of-state students to be accepted to Texas schools, does that mean that a non-white Californian shouldn't even consider applying there since it would just be a waste of money? (Asking for a friend)

I can't remember whether it is an option on the UT application, but I belive, in general, that you can choose not to answer questions that ask you your race, religion, etc. Most schools use these for statistical purposes. I felt no blank adequately described me so I left it blank.

Your friend can always try if Texas is where his/her heart is set on. If money is a concern and his/her tax returns can prove that, they can always apply for application fee waivers and then all that is lost is time if no interview is granted.

Best of :luck: .

Sounds good! I'll be sure to let him know 🙂
