Can Biochemistry be used as a substitute for a second semester of orgo. I'm not thrilled with taking more chemistry than I need so if I can just do Orgo 1 and Biochem I would be jubilant.

Not sure about other schools, but it's possible to substitute Biochem for a portion of your chemistry requirement at UTSA. What's strange is that biochemistry is also a pre-req ... so I guess double-dipping for pre-reqs is allowed. I would check to make sure. The Ochem II requirement is standard requirement for basically every U.S. medical school.

BIOCHEMISTRY: Three semester hours or 5 quarter hours of Biochemistry is required. This requirement may be used towards fulfilling the Biological Science or Chemistry requirement. The course may be taught in the Biology, Biochemistry or Chemistry department and cannot be an introductory course.

I'm pretty sure you have to have a semester of biochem IN ADDITION to an entire year of Ochem at San Antonio...

I'm wrong. never mind.

Don't worry, I was actually in the same mind-set until I went to double check on their website. It's strange that they would allow you to possibly exempt Ochem II.

To the OP: If you want to apply anywhere besides UTSA, you will need to take Ochem II. If you're comfortable applying to only one school, I suppose that's your prerogative.

haha, yeah I was thinking that you'd have to have both if you wanted to apply anywhere else lol
