What activities can a Texas resident take part in order to be more likely interviewed by out of state medical schools? Particularly the top 15 schools?

Besides the usual and customary experiences, consider a strong leadership role and 2+ years of research with evidence of productivity. Extraordinary accomplishment in some other field of endeavor won't hurt either.
