TEXAS schools - merit scholarships and aid

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hi guys,

Do Texas medical schools offer merit based scholarships? (List + amounts please) 😀

Also, do a lot of the schools offer need based aid (does anybody have a typical package amount?)?

Typically no and definitely not in the amounts that would make a significant dent in your debt. Instead of funneling money to scholarships, Texas schools prefer to lower tuition for everyone.

Of course, this is ignoring Baylor since they are a private school. And I don't really have an idea how they use their funds.

There are a few, but like RealMD said, tuition and costs are already pretty low (comparably) for in-staters. However, each school does have a small pool of scholarship money for student recruitment. UTMB, A&M, and UTSW are the only schools I know of for a fact.

However, I didn't see anything more than 5K a year (renewable) during my application cycle.

And when it comes to scholarships, it usually helps if they think you're highly sought after (i.e. hold multiple out of state acceptances from highly desirable programs).

Best of luck to the c/o 2013. 👍
