I got accepted to all three schools in Texas. I am going to Houston!!!
 
Me gots accepted to htown and still pending in baylor and SA.

I am having trouble deciding, as I LOVED all three schools!!! But leaning towards SA.

When did you have your interview ? and your stat ?
 
I had my interview back in September. My stats are

GPA: 3.98
DAT: 22
 
perfect.

I know man, its gonna be hard to decide!! Liked the personality at Houston, but the school is SOOO nice at SA. Plus I like the laid back atmosphere of SA

Still, I'm a little dissappointed I havent heard from Baylor. I am assuming I made the waitlist, so maybe I'll get contacted eventually. But, it will be hard to choose between the 3 (if Baylor accepts me) because they are all damn fine schools.
 
OK, all you Texas folk 'round here, lets keep this thread jumpin. I didn't want to post till I heard from all three schools, but decided to go ahead.

I will check the mail today and keep ya'll updated on Baylor.
 
Cool.... you all have excellent stats. I guess I have to wait till Feb to find out . My stats are much lower. Good job everybody! :clap: :clap: If you have decided your top school, please cancel the rest. Your action will help lots people out there. 🙂 🙂

For me, its all about UT-Houston. Htown does it for me and going to school here would be solid. Im late in the process and am just starting inteviewing, so maybe I can jump on the bandwagon of accepted student within the next month or so.

I just gotta keep thinking that for every 3.98 and there is a 3.0x. 🙂
 
I hope you get in dude. It would be great to have some SDNers in school.

Anybody in here from Texas A&M? Just wanted to see if I know anyone in here from the predental society.
I did like San Antonio alot, but most of my family and friends are here in Houston, and I know my way around the Med Center.

ah...... I THINK I got rejected from UT-SA .. I got this through email

".....application is still under consideration by the Faculty Review Committee..."
 
larry, I emailed UTSA to see what was up with them. Up to this point they hadnt even sent me a letter saying that they received my application. So I asked about the status of my application and basically got the same response you got back. I dont think the email you got is bad at all.
 
Ah... I can't make it in the first round at Baylor. Just got an email confirm about that today. Nothing but bad news lately. So sad 😕 😕

If there are any other Texas lurkers out there, could you please give me the pros and cons of each Texas school.

From what I saw on the interview, I was really impressed with UTSA's program. Plus, the reputation seems to be excellent. I think I would really like the computer dvd textbook thing they have implemented. San antonio is a city that fits my personality. I think I would get tired of all the hustle and bustle of the medical center at Houston and downtown Dallas.

I'm just a country boy 😎 Ain't too fond of the city life :laugh:

The pros of the Texas schools is that they all have between 90%-95% pass rate on the national boards, whereas the national average is just under 80%. UTSA seems to have the best reputation out of all 3 schools. UT-Houston probably last out of the bunch when it comes to reputation.

You will get a great education at either school. Go with the location that will make you most comfortable. If San Antonio fits your personality the best, go with it. You cant go wrong with that.

But they are still holding your application, right?

Dont worry about it man, this whole process will test your patience. You've got an acceptance, so you are ahead of the game. Anything on top of that is just gravy.
 
yeah... all 3 schools, my application is still being considered for the next round review .... darn... 😡 madness madness... but phew.. my semester is over. I got all As for this semester.. tough semester... :clap: :clap: I will spend this 5 weeks off practicing my hand skill with amalgam and composite.

yeah.. I like San Antonio too and their DVD textbooks. For Houston, I will have an advantage with patients. I have so many connections to get any type of patient out there. Hope you and I will become classmates next year bug.

Hi yall!

I've been avidly reading all yall's posts. I want to congratulate all those that got accepted to dental school this year whether it be TEXAS or elsewhere. I got into one school in TEXAS, BAYLOR. I love that school. They're known to have awesome professors. Their facilities are by far one of the best I've seen especially since they renovated a great amount of the dental school. Also, Baylor is the best clinical school in Texas and perhaps better some schools out of state as well. So yeah, i hope this can help someone narrow down their choices. Alrighty yall, take care, and good luck to those that are still waiting, i'm sure it'll turn out great in the end.

You are right. Baylor is a top notch school. I was blown away by their new sim lab and their computerized appointment scheduling thing.

darn.. Congratulation dented. When did you get the acceptance letter ? Did you call or do anything to get their attention ? I know you was on waiting list till June. Did you have enough time to apply for student loan and a place to stay ?
 
Hey Larry,

Actually, i was on the alternate list for the fall of 2003. So, I did the whole application process all over again for fall 2004 really early. This time, I interviewed in Sept. and i got an acceptance letter from them on Dec. 2. Thinking that the letters would come on Dec. 1, i called baylor and they said that they sent them on Dec. 1, so that's why i got it on the 2nd. My advice to you Larry is to call them and make sure that they get your grade reports of this semester. Talk to Janet, she'll help you out with everything as far as getting things into the school and also giving you hints about your standing on the alternate list. Try to make her know you to where she can even recognize your voice whenever you call, but don't call too many times. Larry, i've been in your shoes, i know how you feel, but dudes at least you already made it somewhere, that makes a HUGE difference. Goodluck!

I just finished my first semester at Baylor (yay!! I survived!). 🙂 If ya'll have any questions about BCD or need advice, post it here or pm me! FYI, I was accepted to all three schools last year on dec 1 and i chose baylor! 🙂 It's a great school and I'm loving it here!! Come to Baylor! 🙂 Hehe...
 
San Antonio for me next year. Part of a 7-year BS/DDS program I was admitted to my freshman year of undergrad. Good luck everyone.

Also, tell us why you are now happy/not happy with your decision now that you have experienced a semester at BCD.

Do you know approximately how many acceptances are gonna be sent on the second round in Febuary?
 
Hello Critterbug and all those considering Baylor 🙂

I chose Baylor because it made the best impression on me during my interview. I'm from Houston, so going to Baylor and having to live in Dallas has always been my last choice because of the distance. During my interview, I talked to many students (some of which I stopped in the hallway) and they all seemed to be happy with the school. A lot of the 4th years I talked to said they are confident with their clinical skills and are ready to graduate. We do all the lab works here, so I thought it'd be nice to have more practices although you will rarely ever do any lab work once you get out of school. The Sim lab and freshmen lab are both high tech and new, which are two things that Houston and SA lack. Both Baylor and SA got new chairs in the clinics as far as I know. So having discovered all that in just one day during the interview automatically put baylor as my #1 choice. It was the last texas schools I interviewed at by the way.
I had a good experience at Houston as well and did a summer research program there 2 summers ago. People there are friendly and laid back, but I want a bigger class. Plus the 4th years seem to complain a lot about not having enough prosthodontic cases.
SA is the only school I didn't get to know too well, and I didn't like that they only have 2 models of laptop for you to choose from 😛.

After a semester at Baylor, I am happy that my class has a lot of diversity and we're all helping each other out in terms of sharing notes and old exams. I am not happy about our library though!! It closes way too early... 9pm M-Thr. So we have to find other places to study at. Either go up to 7th floor (where you guys were taken to for financial aid session), or UTSouthwestern or SMU library.

As far as I know from last year, they sent out about 60 letters on Dec 1 and only half of the people accepted the offer. If it's the same this year... there'll be 60 more spots left after jan 15... I bet they'll send out another 30 or so letters in feb! 🙂

Critter, you're already in SA and Houston and I'm sure ur Baylor letter is on the way in feb! 🙂
