Texas Tech applicants 2009

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I got an invite a couple of days ago...I am worried how long after the interview will it take for you to know if you got in? Hopefully we won't have to be biting our nails to the end of March.
i'm wondering that myself...when are you going for the interview? mine is on the 20th in Amarillo.

Mine is the 20th at amarillo
Have you interviewed there before? I was interviewed last year and got waitlisted (i sent my application for regular admission). The people there are really nice and very supportive. So even though it's a long almost 8hr interview process, they try to make it bearable. Anyway, good luck to you. I guess i'll see you there!

Does anyone know whether tech looks just at the composite score or each section? How important do you think the math section is?

I had asked them the same question. Two different answers. One adviser told me that in order to be competitive you should have 70% or above in each section:scared:. Another told me that as long as the composite is above 70% you're fine.
Can somebody clarify this? a kind tech P1 perhaps?

im not too sure about the pcat score thing, but i know that what will show up to determine who gets in is broken down to this: PCAT SCORE, GPA, interview score (grade and recommend/ not recommend ).

letters of acceptance, last year, went out as soon as beginning of March.

RNtoPHARMCY, nice to know ur still applying, good luck!

in our first interview group last yr over 70% got accepted, so good luck!

Just to interject a little humor during this stressful time of applying to pharmacy school, I thought I would share this with those that hadn't seen it yet. I'm posting it in all the TX related threads.

I haven't stopped laughing since I first saw this. Poor Aggies so hilarious

I apologize if this questions has already been prefaced but does Tech make admission decisions after each week of interviews or will they make decisions after all the early admission interviews are done?

hey RNtoPharm, this is my 2nd time as well! I hope to see both you and TABOULI on the 20th as well!!!

Does Tech look at your cumulative GPA or only the prereq GPA calculated by the online system?
Thanks!

they probably look at your cumulative GPA too, but i'm pretty sure they weigh your pre-requisite GPA the most

Are you saying 70 percent of the all the early admin interviews or just from the day you went.

Is anyone applying to austin, I applied right before the deadline 🙁 I know... I checked and they said the next round of interview invites go out the 17th of Feb.

The people that have interviews before me could you come post some of the questions they asked you

Is there anyway to check if the College has received the recommendation forms?

e-mail seems to be the best outlet for those kinds of questions...when you applied, you should have gotten an e-mail from them letting you know who your advisor based on your last name. i suggest e-mailing that person. For me, it was Mike Schwettman and he was very helpful

i'm applying too and i finished my application the week before the deadline..haven't heard anything yet though and we probably won't until the 17th

All you do is click the "status check" button when you log into the Merlin application. It will tell you if they received all the rec letters or not. If it was sent recently you made need to give them some time to update the status section because they have so much paperwork they have to go through with all the applicants. If you think it should be there because it was sent a while back, then I would just call the college and talk to your advisor; they will be able to quickly look in their computer system to see if it is there because everything they do gets scanned electronically and put in your file.

My interview is on the 20th at Amarillo, I am flying in from Dallas on Thursday, for anyone that lives there what is a good hotel to say at? Like one that is close, oh and i am very hygienically picky so something super clean.

There is a La Quinta that is very close, just down the road from the campus. It doesn't seem to have very good ratings though. The next closest I think is the Country Inn and Suites on Amarillo Blvd. west and Soncy, hope that helps!

My interview is on the 6th, I am way nervous and excited.🙂

hey space monkey when did you submit your app for tech? I submitted mine like on the 6th.

Woot woot...Got an interview for the 27 🙂

Anyone else coming?

Have all the early admission invites been sent out?

For those who are already in pharmacy school, how long did tech give y'all to decide whether or not to accept? I'm still waiting on some other schools of interviews, so I just wanted to check. btw i'm interviewing on the 13th (crosses fingers) Thanks!

They send out acceptance letters after all the early interviews are done. By the way, if you stay at the Best Western on Coulter, you get a discount if you tell them you are there for a pharmacy school interview.

Honestly, my PCAT score was not the greatest. I had a 68 PCAT score but both of my science scores were above 80% with my chem in the 90s. But once you get an interview then your GPA and PCAT score do not matter no more. Oh and I also applied for regular admission and I was in the first group of regular admission interview and I get my offer rather quickly. So you will be ok if you apply for regular admissions cause 10/12 people of my group got accepted.

If the first interview for regular admission is on March 6, about when will the adcom start sending out interview invites?

I attended an interview yesterday (2-6) and had a great time! While the interview process was slightly longer than I would have otherwise wished, I learned a great deal of information regarding the SOP and had a fairly stress-free experience in the presence of some sincerely nice folks.

If you guys have any questions for me, fire away!

all early invites have been sent out.....
those that didnt get it will roll with the reg admin ppl....
70+% of my interview group (1st one in abilene) got in....
early admin decisions go out as early as 1st -2nd wk of march...
dress to impress......
interview does play a big role, i got in with a 58(most recent) PCAT, but highest was 86 (1st time)...
i'll see those who are goin on the 13th to abilene, good luck....
i will be an interviewer for most of the rounds, and we do not know the questions that will be asked until the day of interviews....
if ur staying in a hotel, do call and tell them ur there for SOP interview, it should be in an email they send out to u, b/c u do get some discount...

do you mind sharing what interview questions they asked you? or were they mostly the ones on the sdn interview forum? thanks!

Hmmmm, share, and risk helping a fellow applicant that could possibly take my seat. 🙄

I'm all about helping others though, so yes, they were like the feedback questions. Alot of, "Give me an example of this...."

It really is amazing how much the interiew feedback section helps in preparing answers tailored to each specific school. You wonder about the people who don't lurk around here on SDN and how they are even prepared for the interview at each school they go to lol. They must just be prepared well overall.

As Texas PharmDoc stated, the questions centered around a general theme of "Give me an example of this..." and/or "Explain a situation where you had to be/do..." As far as the SDN interview forum is concerned, I really don’t know what to tell you – It kind of helped me prepare but not really -- I apologize for my insufficient answer. My advice is to just go in there with a relaxed state of mind and BE YOURSELF. Good luck!!!!

Imperialto....
About how many ppl are interviewed at the abilene interviews?
I'm going on the 13th

Everyone there is very helpful and friendly. I felt like the whole interview day went just about perfect. The whole process wasn't nearly as stressful as I originally anticipated. Just be yourself and relax as best you can, and be prepared for what is probably the strangest test you will ever take.

For all the people that went already what were the girls wearing? I have a Paris Hilton kinda body type so when i wear those women suits i look weird was their any girls that look professional not wearing those suit things.

Paris Hilton type body? lol well confidence is definitely a big factor in doing well in the interview.

There were some women in professinal looking skirts and the such, the top was still sorta like something from a pant suit but it looked professional. I'm a guy so who knows; either way looks fine.

Maybe just going Paris Hilton underground video style would be best 😀 . Im kidding

For those who have been interviewed...

Did you have to do an essay? I don't remember doing an essay last year, but the schedule for my interview has a slot for writing an essay. Did you guys do this?

Yes, you get an hour to write about an ethical topic that they provide that day.

lol maybe i should, who knows it might work. they would be like " why do you want to be a pharmacist". I would be "thats Hot" lol. Anyway i am 5'9 and really skinny so when i put on a suit... the jacket will be long enough but to big, or small enough but to short. The pants always look like high waters no matter what, and there is no way that i am going to buy a suit then pay to have it tailored. Today i ended up buying this dress sorta thing I think it looks professional and it fits so we will see.

So I saw all these interview invites that people have received from Texas Tech and it really got me thinking. If all the early invites have gone out then why haven't I received an e-mail or something stating that I will be rolled in with the regular admissions? Well even though it was a bit premature, I called and asked if everything was ok with my application and the secretary said something like, "...sir, I would highly recommend you check your e-mail". Not in a rude way but in a hint hint kind of way. Long story short they defaulted my e-mail address to the Texas Tech school e-mail and I was none the wiser. I got an invite like 2 weeks ago and they were going to drop me tomorrow.

Morale of the story... see what your primary e-mail is if you haven't heard from Tech yet. See you guys on the 13th!

i believe there is 25 ppl per round in Abilene or in either campus, TABOULI might wanna comment on that.... fyi i kept the stuff they gave me during interviews and its funny to see how many of those get in once school has started....

guys: its pretty much a given to wear suits, I was the only one in our group that didn't lol and thought that woulda killed my chances of getting in automatically, but dont risk it b/c everyone, even the p2's that interviewed me, remembered that.

enjoy, have fun, all see those of ya'll on the 13th!

What an interesting interview process that was yesterday. It was extremely long but, honestly, after doing the test, the writing essay, listening to Mr. Knall etc... I was unusually calm for the interview. Maybe it's by design, I'm not sure. All and all it was a fun experience and there is really nothing to sweat if you're worried about an upcoming interview.

Hey guyz, does anyone know when they would start sending invitation for regular admission interviews?🙂
