Texas Tech Application Thread

Is the Remington (estates) or apartments? I'm searching it on google, won't list it (no website). And I didn't see it on the TTech housing list either. :/

The Remington Apartments 8801 Tarter Avenue, Amarillo, TX (806) 358-6190

I remember one of the students mentioned that a lot of the students live there and actually have roommates. They spend around $500-600 month for rent and all utilities. The complex looks like a newer place. I drove by on my way out of town.

Also, check out this link..it got pictures.

How strict are they on the no Mac policy?? I know it says they are not allowed, but I work at a hospital where some of the students doing rotations there had MacBooks. I really want to get one! Lol

They were pretty adamant about no Macs. During the IT portion of the Interview day I asked specifically why no Macs and the IT guy (I can't remember his name...sorry) mentioned that there was a cheating scandal involving Apple computers.

I have a Mac as well, and I will not give it up. If I get into TTUHSC I will probably buy a low-end Dell or HP just so I can take the quizzes and tests for school.

LOL!!

Not sure about Abilene. Try apartment finders online. When you get in you should definitely ask for information from the students down there.

Good luck!

Hey all! Congratulations to all who have heard back, and good luck to those who havn't heard yet (Don't give up hope!). I just accepted my Amarillo/Dallas admissions offer, and have my name on the wait-list for a 2 bedroom apartment at the Winchester apartment complex. I am looking for a roommate (preferrably female), so if you are interested in talking to see if we would get along, send me a message (or look me up on fb, etc). Even if you havn't heard back yet but are interested in finding roommate options for when you do hear back, let me know!

TTU Amarillo Class of 2015!!!

I don't know where the "majority" live as we're all pretty spread out. However, the more popular ones in order of proximity to the school include Willow Glen, Renaissance, Quail Creek (each of these are ~5 min), Winchester, Dove Park, and Remington (these are slightly over 5 minutes to 30 min depending on traffic/weather conditions). Make sure not to wait until last minute to find a place to live too or you'll live somewhere far away AND expensive up the ass.

Here's what I said on page 10 to someone who asked about apartments.

Also, if this year is anything like last year, P1s will probably set up a facebook group for the class of 2015 soon where you guys can ask questions about housing, moving, roommates, etc. Keep your eyes peeled!

I'm guessing that's for the Amarillo campus huh? 😀

I got the immunization call...... but I got a new phone last week and changed my number. I just checked my old phone tonight because the battery was dead, lol. No idea when they called me, so I sent an e-mail......

So honestly pharmacy students, how difficult and manageable is the first year? 🙂 I mean 22 hours... Also, I think they talked about this on the interview day, but I can't quite remember the answer exactly: following our first year, are we abe to take any pharmacy summer classes or start doing rounds or something over the summer to help lighten our load during the school year?

I dont think there are summer classes available our first year or second...I know they said we can take online elective classes our third year. And our rotations are done according to our year and I think is during the school semester...so I don't think we can do it during the summer. Can any P1 or 2 confirm this?

I am hoping to get Abilene. Please list some good apartments to check out

This coming week should bring news for those of us that interviewed on Feb 11 and Feb 18th. If the rumors is true, the ADCOM sent out letters last Wednesday or Thursday, and we should be getting word through snail mail in the next couple of days.

When you get your letters, would everyone please post their interview date and campus preference?

Good luck to everyone!

I think the sent out letters are for those who were notified via email on saturday. The ADCOM will be meeting this week to discuss interviewers for feb 18th and up.
I am still hanging in there.......Let's hope for the best!!

Hey I'm currently a P2 at Tech. Honestly, material wise I think your first semester of pharmacy school is your easiest. I think biochem and immunology will be your hardest classes. Compared to some of your P2 classes and what I've heard from P3s about their workload, they're not really that hard. What makes the first semester so difficult is adjusting to the workload. It's a lot of information coming in at a pretty fast pace. However I will say that you've gotten this far, you've been accepted. So you must have your own sort of studying habits, you just need to adapt those to pharm school. Stay on top of your difficult classes and I don't think it will be that bad.

There are no summer classes unless you are doing the joint MBA program as well. If you are then you start taking summer classes the summer before your P1 year, and for what I think are the next two summers after that. If you aren't doing that program, then no there are no summer courses you can take to lighten the load. However, in your P3 year you start rotations, so in the summer between P2 and P3 year, they allow you to take 1 of your 4 rotations during that time to kind of ease you into a hectic P3 year.

If you or anyone else has anymore questions, I'll do my best to check the boards more often and answer them. As for acceptance letters and when they'll be mailed out, I have absolutely no clue. I don't have any idea when the adcom meets or decides to send out acceptances. I do know that you shouldn't be discouraged if you have already interviewed and haven't gotten an acceptance. I know classmates who've interviewed early and got in at a later date. Don't lose hope! If you have other questions though I'd like to hear em.

I stayed at the comfort inn off of I20. There are a lot of other hotels close to there so you have many to choose from.

I only got the immunization call but no official word of acceptance yet. It's driving me nuts!

Don't worry. I'm sure it's coming in the mail. You'll probably get it today or tomorrow depending on where you live.

Edit: I just realized something. Did you send in your immunization records that you were missing? I know they don't offer you an acceptance officially until that is turned in. Maybe they haven't received it?

Really? I too interviewed on Feb. 18th and stayed at the same comfort inn i believe.

Ok....I got an automated email reminding me that I need to get all of my immunizations, TB, and CPR completed.

The email was very clear about it being automated and that I am still only considered a prospective student.

Did anyone else get this email? Has it begun......? 😀

I got it too. I was excited until I read that everyone gets one haha

LOL..oh well.

Question: If I am fortunate enough to be approved by the ADCOM, will they withhold the acceptance letter until the last shot, which is 3 months from now? Or will they send a letter with a notice that it is tentative upon completion of the shots? (Hep B shots have a specific timeline) 😕

Just a little confused. Would the current TTUHSC students weigh in on this one?

In regard to your Hep B shot...I believe they said if you receive your first shot and submit it...then they will definitely send you the acceptance letter.

I can vouch for this. I'm getting my 2nd shot this week and I received the letter.

Yes I got this as well. Got my hopes up then back down. I wish i didn't have to work so I could check the mail sooner. It's pretty much all I think about while I'm at work lol.

I also got the same email! The cake isn't real!

Also got my official letter in the mail today. Nice touch with the confetti packed inside...I had to vacuum it off the floor!

Congrats!! 😀 Would you please post your interview date and site!!

I didn't get anything in the mail either. Arrgh! :smack:

I'm not sure any of the my interviewing class (Feb 18 Amarillo) has heard anything yet.

Well, there is always tomorrow....

Where did you stay in Abilene? I go there on the 18th 😱

I stayed at the Residence Inn by Marriott. It was a really nice place! The kitchen even had a full size fridge! Plus a stovetop to cook and a sink & dishwasher. And it came with dishes as well. I really liked it and would highly recommend it. I think it was off I-20

I did email them my missing immunization record the same day I got the call, but no response yet.

Also, I didn't receive the automated email that everyone seems to have received today. I'm getting nervous!
