Texas Tech Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I did email them my missing immunization record the same day I got the call, but no response yet.

Also, I didn't receive the automated email that everyone seems to have received today. I'm getting nervous!

Don't worry. Just try calling them to confirm that they received it. The e-mail wasn't anything too exciting...just a teaser haha

It looks like everyone that has been accepted so far have outstanding GPAs. I can't even compete with yall right now.

That is not true and I can vouch for it. I have mediocre/average GPA..... hang in there!!

So nobody who interviewed on Feb. 18 has heard anything back yet? Did everyone who got accepted have the status change in their Merlin account before they recieved the acceptance letter?

I interviewed on Feb 4th and got accepted in the first round. I also had a mediocre GPA/PCAT. Good luck and hang in there!! 🙂

As far as I know, no one from the Feb 18 Amarillo interview group, that is posting on SDN, has heard anything.

I was in that interview group and I thought we would have heard something by now. I know I have to be patient, but it is hard to concentrate...lol.

Please post if you hear anything and I will do the same! Good Luck!

Well the way Texas Tech calculates the GPA I'm standing at a 3.02 flat. Ugh......no change against everyone who is 3.3-4.0 range. My PCAT was average too. I guess I should be proud that I got an interview at least.

Don't give up hope!!! A far as I know, not one person form the the second interview group (Feb 11 and Feb 18) has even heard anything yet, and UT, UIW, and TSU haven't even sent out letters yet.

These schools make it very clear that a high GPA and PCAT does not guarantee a spot. If you did well on your interview, and have good LORs, you have a GOOD shot!!!!

The worst case scenario I see for any of us is that we get wait-listed and hear something closer to May. Stay Positive!!!

Sooo not true... Mine was 3.3 and I got in. There is no room for pessimism here lol

I didn't get anything in the mail today. So much for the rumor that letters were sent out last week...lol.

Now I don't know what to think.....

Lets hope we hear something soon....lol

It was. I got the mail in yesterday dated "3/2/2011". So I assumed it's that one.

I think it'll be either end of this week (by email) and next week that the next round will get it.

Your GPA and PCAT gets you to an interivew. Your interview is what decides to get you in so I would not worry about GPA..

Assuming they kept the same schedule, they should have decided the third round by today, since last Wednesday (3/2/11) they sent out letters and a couple of people were told over the phone that they were "not on the list" for the second round.

I know they said too during the interview...but i dont quite agree with that. i think PCAT score plays a big part of you getting an offer. one of my professor's told me last year , GPA is arbitrary . In a way you can control it but picking a easier professor or whatever it may be. But PCAT its the same exam for everyone and it just depends on the individual how he or she will do.

sorry for the long rant but i do believe PCAT plays a big part , and just your interview. i have a really bad PCAT composite score.

KEEP YOUR HEADS UP GUYS 🙂

I believe my PCAT score isn't good. I still got in. So while I think PCAT play a role in the Adcom decision to accept students, I agree with AceInhibitor that interview plays the biggest part.

(For instance, Texas A&M told us PCAT was worth 15 points while the interview was 25 points, I believe)

Edit: (Totally unrelated to the topic) Wow I just realized how much I post in SDN, 200 posts! LOL

Oh sorry if i was not clear, i did not mean that the interview is not the biggest factor. i was just saying that even if you had a great interview, your PCAT is then one of the determining factors. just like what you said about A&M 25 + 15 thing. say if you got 25 on the interview and 7 on the PCAT. u would probably rank below some with a 20 on interview and 15 on the PCAT.
i hope i was clear in my idea .

i dono i am probably going crazy 😕

200 posts wow !

Ahhhhhhh I'm so impatient. I need to learn how to relax.

So if the adcom is meeting tomorrow then we probably won't hear anything until next week? When is Texas Tech spring break?

Also, is general bio lab required for this school? I'm taking it right now but my genetics course was used in place of general bio lab.

How do you know the AdCom is meeting tomorrow (Thursday, 3/10/11)?

I'm feeling the same way right now!! LOL!! I thought for sure those of us in the 2/11 & 2/18 interview groups would know by now!!

I'm afraid to ask if the ADCOM is really meeting this week. I feel like I have already been burned by one rumor....

Lets hope the weekend brings good news!

I personally know because I spoke with my advisor yesterday regarding the January PCAT they allowed us to take amd she informed me thay they would meet on thursday

When did you interview and at which campus?

They have to meet eventually of course, but who know about which interview group and which campus they are meeting about? LOL!!

I only thought I was a patient person.....🙂

I interviewed on Feb 11th. and also had a mediocre GPA/PCAT, but do not lose hope. The interview can really turn things around. I got my acceptance letter last Saturday 3/5/11. Best of luck to you!

I agree with everyone that saying not to worry about GPA, PCAT. Although it's an old version, Tech's '06-'07 catalog specifically states that only the interview day activities goes towards the adcom's ranking of candidates. The individuals weights were 12.5% essay, 12.5% thinking test, 25% group, 50% interview. They've since dropped the essay, but they probably still weigh the interview the most.

Don't worry so much about GPA, PCAT. There's probably a bias towards people with high GPA, PCAT posting stats. We all got a clean slate when we received the interview invitation.

I really hope you are right :xf:

yeah i called last week and my advisor also mentioned that the adcom meets tomorrow .

I got my acceptance email this morning!!! Woohoo!

I interviewed at the very first interview, January 14th, in Abilene.

🙂

Hey! I didn't see your post til now 😀 haha I interviewed same day and same location, I believe we met...I don't think you'd know who I am though! lol

Anyone thought of creating a facebook page for Class of 2015??? We should have one!!!🙂)))

I just started working as a pharmacy technician at walmart. I wish I was working there earlier so I could have put this in my application. I'm still waiting anxiously for a letter of acceptance. Come on baby!

Where are you from in Texas?

Hopefully they will be sending more letters out soon since the adcom just met today. I'm really anxious as well!! When did you interview?

Could you tell us more about the experience you have so far at Tech? I was very impressed by the school/program/facility/technology/simulation center/friendly staff/students during the interview. I hate cold weather and I am a city person. But I like the school so much that I am willing to move to Amarillo for Tech.

I just want to find out if your experience at Tech matches the expectations that they set up for us during the interview. I know they just finished the simulation center. So, how do you like it? How much time do you actually get to use it? When/for which class do you use it? Honestly, the simulation center is the biggest selling point for me since Tech is the only Texas school that has that. I really like the idea/approach that they have with the teaching of clinical pharmacy (hands on experience + opportunities to practice and make mistakes on the non-living or actor patients).

Is it really what you get from the school? 😕

Also, how would you rate your professors? Especially those teaching the hard classes like biochem and PT. I am all about new technology but I hate powerpoints. I learn better from professors who are engaging and write stuff on the board. Have you had any trouble adjusting to the electronic curriculum?

This is all I have for now. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts and experience. If you don't feel comfortable making your comments in public, please pm me. I need to get as much information as possible to make an informed decision.

Thanks a bunch! 😉

Once the final letters have gone out, the current P1 students great a facebook group for the incoming P1 class.

Hey guys,

I never really thought of this...but I am currently completely one prerequisite for TTUHSC program. It is Public Speaking. I was wondering, would it be a big deal if it is taken at a community college? I'm not quite sure on this...I do have a Bachelor Degree in Biology, but I don't know if the school would approve of the course I am taking at a CC.

Thanks for your input.

Edit: Never mind. A quick look at their website says they do accepted courses from "any regional accredited U.S. College or University". So I'm assuming it's fine right?

Everything should be fine from a Community College. My 1st 2 years are from a CC and I didn't have any issues transferring those courses in.

Does anyone know how long after the adcom meets that letters are typically sent out? Or the Merlin status is at least updated? Is spring break going to delay letters?

Why thank you!!! 😀

@Tiger Lily, it depends, I heard it took (for the first round) almost a month for the letters. For me it took 2 months but it was worht the wait!!! I'm sure you'll hear something by end of March, if not early April.
