Texas Vision Associates offered me a job working in an America's Best Contacts and Eyeglasses in one of their Dallas, TX locations. I just graduated from Optometry school (May 2014) and the offer they gave me was higher than what I have been offered from private practice docs. I know I will be seeing quite a few patients everyday but with the student loans I have I feel I could really use the extra income. Does anyone here have experience working at this chain in the state of Texas? I would greatly appreciate any advice.

America's Best is the absolute bottom of the barrel, most hellacious, pond scum place to work. They make Walmart seem like the Mayo Clinic. I think you should do it if for no other reason than you can say you did it. Then, no matter what else you do in your career, it will never be as bad as that.

My friend did it for a six months and regretted it.

It's so terrible but they tempted with a 115k starting salary. Do they really pay that or is it some marketing trickery? Their representatives called me to see if I want to sign a contract.

They do pay that much. With how much tuition is these days, it is worth considering. I love being an optometrist but it definitely sucks paying off these student loans with the ridiculous interest rates we have now. I feel lucky that I only have ~$180k worth of debt. I know way too many recent grads/residents who are $230k+. Yes, it's as depressing as it sounds.

That IS tempting. Depends on your debt load. It would be a definite sacrifice and something that could compromise your future employment prospects ... BUT ... if you could pay off the loans. You might need to compensate for working for pond scum by going on a couple eye care missions with VOSH ... after you quit AB. That way any future employers can see you're still a caring human being.

I'm looking at a job posting made from them recently and I'm trying to research them but I can't even find a website. What is this can of worms? Should I be wary?

They are and ophthalmology practice that sued the Texas Optometry board for threatening and harassing to take away the optometrist license for working as an employee in Americas Best optical. You're basically working for and ophthalmology practice that leases space in said optical chain.

Shame on the Texas optometry board for threatening that optometrist and the medical practice he works under. What penalty can the optometrist impose on the board? What, the Texas board of Optomtrey sleeps with Vision Source/Essilor and they can talk about interpreting the Optometry Act when they violate the very law themselves? What a Joke.

You want to work for this chain? Go ahead, It's legal and its money. You'll learn fast why you should've taken the lower salary with a stable OD practice.

Working here is a serious health liability, meaning that it makes you want to kill yourself five times a week.
