Hi,
Can someone explain why/how you see two tubes running through the figure and not one (in other words why is the answer C and not D?

C is the only correct answer because the top opening on the side view lines up with the dashed lines on the front view.
 
In the top view the rectangle in the middle that extends all the way from left to right represents the bottom tube (circle) in choice C. This is also represented by the long horizontal rectangle at the bottom of the front view picture. The horizontal dashed lines in the front view represent the top tube (circle) in choice C.

Choice D cannot be right because only one tube is represented.
