Thank You Cards Post-Interview?

Apologies if this has been asked--I'm sure it has.

What is the consensus on sending a thank you note after a residency interview? Yay or nay?

I have been on the fence about whether or not to send them. It seems like a good idea to keep one's name in the minds of the interviewers. Yet, on rotation today, my attending opened a card from an applicant and proceeded to fling it across the counter without reading it.

I'm applying to family med residency, if it helps.
