I just finished my preceptorship course where we basically just shadow an attending for about 4 hours/week for a semester long. At the end, I just wrote him a simple thank you email. He replied back with "it was nice having you, i'll be in the clinic tomorrow if you want/need to drop by," which makes me wonder is he expecting me to come and give him some sort of thank you card? is it expected or is email sufficient?
what would you guys do in this situation?

An email is all that is necessary. You don't even need to respond to his email back. He was just being polite.
