I was interviewed at Case few weeks ago, I sent thank you notes, but I did not receive any response from the PD and Associated PD. 😕 What do you think? please share your experience. Thanks.

I wouldn't worry.

I never received a thank you note for the thank you note.

If you do get one, you could of course send a thank you note for the thank you note for the thank you note.

Programs get hundreds to thousands of applicants, they interview dozens. The process for several places is far from over. Most don't respond back at all, and you only hear back with the Match results if you consider that a response.

Actually I did get 1 note now that I think about it.

Sorry that I gave an inaccurate post. (its been 4 years, cut me some slack).

I don't know though if this was the idiosyncratic approach of that 1 program director or if I somehow stood out. He told me he was particularly impressed with one of my letters of reccomendation and was specifically very interested in me. I don't know if he tells that to everybody or if it was genuine (some programs try to sell themselves quite well). He did however write a very long hand written note so I believe it was sincere. (Of course my ego could be biasing my judgement).

That program was Stony Brook, and I was quite impressed with that program. I didn't end up going there. I did place it high on my match list but ended up going to a program I placed higher.

I still don't think that you should gauge your success on getting a letter back. Hardly anyone I know got a thank you note for the thank you note. The only other person I know of who got one was an extremely strong applicant (probably the #1 out of hundreds) and was well known with the program because he rotated with them & became good friends with the residents.

There are other three programs I really like also. I sent thank you notes after the interview as always. One program did not response me at all, but I got a call from the program director and told me that the program is very interested in me and leave me his direct phone #. I missed her call, but I did left a message for her to express my interest in her program. But I never heard form her again. Another program, the PD and Associated PD replied my thank you note with simple words but I considered very personal. and both of them replied my two sentences only thanksgiving greeting. I did not reply their thank you notes to my thank you notes or greetingson either two occasions, as I don't know what else to write back.
Whopper , Christmas is coming, do you have any suggestion regarding how to communicate with the programs? and in Jan, what would you suggest me to do? couple of programs said they would not invite people to come back for the second visit, but they welcome applicants to come back for couple of days visit. Thanks million.

The correlation between how a program feels about you/judges you and their reaction to your thank you note is nil in almost all cases. A few programs play the back-and-forth game, but most don't.

I think you should be more worried about looking overzealous at this point. Programs like folks who are going to be low-maintenance residents, and a continual barrage of communication may be misconstrued as a good old DSM-2 Anxiety Neurosis. It may just you being a polite person who would like some feedback, but we're a specialty of folks who tend to read a little too far into things 😉

Look too overzealous--and yes it could be a problem as well. If the PD called you back, that's a very good sign. If you got a thank you, that too is an excellent sign.

I wouldn't keep up a thank you for the thank you for the thank you notes. That'd be just annoying for everyone involved. If they offer any oppurtunities to see the program more, look into it, but also play it cool.

Thank you guys. Whopper, I certainly agree with you for all your comments including those in the past few years. I believe that communication between two parties goes both ways like dancing. Different programs have their unique styles to communicate with applicants, I will take both of you guys' advices, be cool and don't look overzealous.

I'm definitely going to come off sounding ignorant on this, but can someone clue me in to some specifics of the thank-you notes. Do you send a card or an email? Also, is it usually a quick 3 or 4 sentence note, which I plan on sending, or do people go all out🙂 and write poems on a hallmark card?

I've recieved both emails & cards after interviews. I personally don't really find one more important than the other, but I will tell you, after dozens of applicants, it does make more of an impression on my mind.

I can't say one is stronger than the other since to me it doesn't matter.
