How about giving back with a Step 1 experience for those that haven't taken it yet? I've already taken it and posted mine.

Congrats great score, I always knew it would be some lurker who doesn't contribute who'd have the bomb a$$ score. For those who haven't taken it yet or well be taking it next year you might wanna share how you did it.

Yes, please share. I take it in a few weeks. 😉

Anyone that has taken the Step 1 knows up to 250 is just hard work; and just about anyone can get a 250 if they study hard and long enough. Anything above a 250 is just PURE LUCK (which has several components) and if anyone tells you otherwise they are full of it or just blowing smoke up their own hole. I say this because realistically the amount of information you need to know to Consistently score above a 250 is ridiculous. As we all know some of this info not only has a very short half-life but is practically irrelevant hence making it harder to retain for more than 48 hours. As much as I would like to say “the secret to cranking the Step 1 is …” I know that I had studied for about a 245 the additional points came from:
Luck Factors:
1. I got questions on the 15% minutia that had actually stuck or its half-life had not ran out 😉 .
2. I must have correctly answered a high percentage of questions I completely guessed on (~10%). 😱
3. I’m sure others can add more…

But here is how I studied:
10 days Read BRS path 2x
5 days Read BRS Physio and did questions involving calculations
2 days High Yield Behavioral Science
5 days High Yield Biochem and High Yield Molecular cell
3 days High Yield Anatomy (selective chapters); Only Embryo I reviewed was First Aid
5 days Microbiology made ridiculously simple (Read the Bacteriology ,once you finish look over the anti-bacterials in FA, and some of the important Virology, look over anti-virals in FA, USE THE DRUG SECTIONS in ridiculously simple!!!) use this book to look up worms and protozoan in FA to help you remember them but for the most part only learn info about these parasites presented in FA DO NOT try and memorized random life cycles and structural make ups.
3 days Immunology (I borrowed my friends Kaplan book for this)
3 days Pharm

I made notes in FA along the way.
Last 5 Days I re-read FA
I only finished ~70% of Q-bank

Well I hope this helps.
I wish you all the best of luck.

Thank you so much for your experience. What is your opinion of the Fred Software for the Class of 2008. Did you find it useful to highlight and annotate? I've heard terrible things about it, and would appreciate your opinion.

Thanks Komodor........what pharm resource did you use?

I had recently taken Pharm so it was pretty fresh. All I used was First Aid. If you know FA Pharm really well, you'll be able to answer 95% of the pharm question (assuming you didn't take pharm more than a year ago)

Fred Software can get tricky when switching between highlighting and marking out (it sometimes switch back). I would suggest just using the highlighting on the longer question to make it easy if you need to come back. I didnt use the annotate function (waste of time), trust me by the time you take the exam your short term memory is so beefed up you wont need notes to remind you of what you were thinking 30 minutes ago; as soon as you look a the question your train of tought will come back.

But I would download the software and at least try it out once before you go in for the exam.

Also I'l not sure if you have already signed up for Qbank but I called them several months ago and they told me they were going to change the Qbank format to FRED version some time in July. Only crappy part is if you have already bought Qbank they are going to make you buy the new version (no rollover). 😡 👎

i think more relevant (and interesting) info would be:

What is your basic sciences gpa? some middle-of-the-pack people will study their asses off, and yet won't break a 240.

and just curious:
how much of your step1 material do you remember now? how many half lifes has it been? has it all decayed? 🙂

Here is a word of advice, watch your step there are many smart people on SDN.

BTW, Brilliant move dating yourself with the advice on the FRED software.

Besides, the top score on SDN was a 272 (unc12) not a 267. Too bad, you didn't do your research, because your score would have been more impressive than JUST a "268" if you knew this information. 👍

Nice try explaining your "study plan". I see a major flaw in the boldened paragraph that undermines your credibility. Anyone that has studied for Step 1 would also be able to see this flaw.

Wow, good catch detective! His credibility is toast. 😴

so what's the flaw? just tell us.

or is this just a case of sour grapes?

Prediction: Within 2 weeks, someone will post that he/she scored a 273+...

maybe the original poster wanted to make a point that some of you care too much about other people's scores.

p53 you’re a sad sight bro. People like you are the main reason I usually don’t post anything.
I saw this quote the other day which I think really pertains to you, “Arguing on the internet is like running in the Special Olympics, even if you win you’re still ******ed”.

This is the last post I’m going to make about this topic, so you can believe whatever you want; I don’t want to join the small (but very vocal) group SDN members that the quote targets.

Take a deep breath, life is not over.

Checkmate.

You are being defensive because you lied. If you truly scored a 268 with the Fred Software you would have the confidence to dismiss my charges. Nice try. Now, go back to your meager life and hide in obscurity. Good Luck on your Step 1 in the future. It is quite obvious you haven't even completed 2nd year of medical school with your "study plan".

Just curious what this dudes flaw in his study plan was/is. He had more time alloted studying for step 1 than I and it looks pretty solid other than no Neuro (but people are strong in different areas and he may not have needed to review neuro like I didn't need to look at pharm)

Here's a logic problem. How can I be jealous if I haven't received my score? PM if you can't figure that one out.

Good luck with a medical school admission. 👍

At least we know 1 out of the 2 people that received a score back.

Proof is in the pudding.

Just post it with a picture.

Does anyone still have a copy of bigfrank's MVP performance? We can start a "Proof is in the Puddin' Thread" to prove high scores on Step 1.

am i hallucinating? are pox in box and p53 actually agreeing for once? that is, that this person's score seems fishy? 😉

congrats if u really got that score OP!

Agree with this statement. All of the clues don't add up. This guy is a fraud.

On a side note, anyone that finds amusement using the term "******ed" to describe someone in the special olympics has some serious deficiencies in maturity.

If I met Komodo in real life, I would kick his arse, and tie a rope around his right leg and drag him on my truck going 45 mph on a gravel road. I've volunteered the summer of my junior year in college helping children with disabilities. Nothing upsets me more than someone that disparages a person that is physically disadvantaged.

wow, p53, you seriously need to get a life. there actually isn't anything wrong with that study plan, mine was similar, it just wasn't like yours. in fact, I've read/heard about yours several times and thought "is this guy for real???" so different strokes for different folks. I don't know who you think died and left you in charge of crashing every single party on earth but I suggest you ditch the puritan mentality and get back to something useful like taking care of your patients- you are a med student, right? 🙄

Unsure if you PASSED the exam, or disappointed with a subpar score. I understand the emotional displacement on me. Come to think of it, I have come across as too confident since the question isn't whether I passed but by how much. Bygones.

And it is incredibly mature and appropriate to counter someone's lewd comments with a physical threat. You're a huge tool man. Get a life.
