Thank You's after Interviews

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It's definitely not bad form to send thank you e-mails. However, I sent cards to every single person who interviewed me. Usually I wrote them in the airport while I was waiting for my (freqeuently delayed) flight.

Overkill? Probably.

I believe it is common courtesy to send some thank to your interviewers for their time. However, I personally know happily matched applicants who didn't send a single one. Therefore, the moral of the story is to do whatever you are comfortable doing.

sorry-- i meant is it poor form to send an email over a card? who uses regular mail these days? the only things i get by regular mail are rejcetions!

I recently asked a program coordinator whether their faculty prefer emails or snail mail. He said to email the faculty, b/c then the faculty can easily reply if they so choose, and get them closer to the interview while you're fresh in their mind. He also said every email generally gets forwarded to the program coordinator to print off and put in the applicant's chart, so put some time into the email. Might look like poor form if all the emails in your chart read the same, but otherwise email seems OK.
On the other hand, my PD said a hand-written note just to the PD and chair would be totally fine too. Didn't feel it necessary to write a note to each interviewer.
Think you just wanna avoid being the guy who didn't send any thank-you's at all.

I agree wholeheartedly. I personally think that I was hurt by the fact that I didn't send out enough thank you letters (I didn't send any emails, but I think these would be fine for most of the interviewers).
