I took the DAT a couple of days ago and did OK. I got an AA of 19, which was around what I was shooting far. But, unfortunately, I got a 15 on the PAT. I have been out of school for almost two years now and really concentrated on science review for the test. I kind of neglected the PAT section. I worked through the three topscore tests and consistantly got 18's on the PAT section.
Has anyone had this experience, of having to retake the DAT because of a bad PAT score? My big question is, is there really a way to improve on this section? Some friends of mine say that there is not really much room for improvement, that it is something that some people just get and are good at. I hope this is not the case.
Could someone share their experience or give advice on how to improve? Any input would be much appreciated.

vondy60, good job on the AA!! As for the PAT, if you have a high enough GPA, then your PAT score may not be that big of a deal. Good luck buddy ! =)

It really depends on the schools that you applied to. Some schools may not care too much, especially if you have a high gpa or your other dat scores that they care more about are high. tell us your stats and which schools you applied to and someone could probably shed some more light.

and about retaking the dat to improve pat, i personally agree with your friends. I took the dats twice, and the only score that didnt change was my pat.

If your PAT is below 16. Then I would recommend to take it again, and score at least 16.

Most schools need 17's and 18's. PAT scores of 16 is below National Average, and can hurt your chances if your other credentials are not above average.

Just call the schools and tell them what you got, ask them if its competitive or if you should retake it to be seriously considered. Most of the time they will not have a problem telling you. You don't have to give your name if you don't want to. This is the only way to know for sure. Easy as that.

I'm not to sure about that. I think NOVA this year had like a 16.5 PAT avg

That means they took a few below 16 and a bunch at 16

How do you know Nova's current application DAT stats?

Isn't it kinda early to find that out, even the school itself?

I just took the DAT today. The results are the reverse of my expectations. In the Kaplan and Topscore my PAT was 22-25 and my Academic Average over 20. However on the real DAT, I ended up with PAT 17 and AA 24.

I had been concentrating on science, because I have been out of school for a while. I thought that PAT would be my best section and it turns out to be my worst.

Anyway, my scores:
AA 24
PAT 17
QR 19
RC 27
Bio 28
GC 23
OC 25
Tot Sci 25
