Not that I'm against giving away the keys to the farm just to get in, I'd say that the KEY is in two words:
STATE SCHOOL
anyone who thinks otherwise......lives in Cali.

I live in California and I think otherwise. I agree that the key is motivation. No, take that one back. Passion more like it! If you are passionate about it, you are motivated. Either that or thick skin to not take all the rejections personally. :D :D :D

perserverance

It encompasses motivation and goes beyond. Anyone can be motivated, but to carry out that motivation you need to perservere against all adversity, all opposition.

patience

<img border="0" alt="[Pity]" title="" src="graemlins/pity.gif" /> :p

patience, and a willingness to play the game....because this application process is a big game.

praying. begging. writing love letters to schools.

I'm with McEntrye.....Unrelenting drive and conviction should be emanating from your every word & action.

PRAYER

1) Pray-Your dad/mom is on the admissions committee.
2) Pray- you'll get a chance to sleep with the dean or his/her close relative.

All the usual suspects, plus applying to lots of appropriate schools and staying on top of all the details of the application process.

I'm with Foxy - patience. Especially this year. I'll also add preparedness - for interviews, secondaries, personal statements, paying for the whole thing.....

parents with lots and lots of $$$$$$
anyone fitting the profile care to adopt me?

marshmellows...what?

I'm with Lady...I felt like so much of it was chance this year

...determination!

here's the secret: the more you post on SDN, the more you'll know. Then you'll get in!

Guess I'm in trouble then Doctora Foxy, I have some catching up to do.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say the key is good old fashioned Hard Work!

All of the above, plus being a knowledgeable applicant. Finding SDN is half the battle!! :D

kissing ASS!!

Motivation may be the #1 secret for medical school acceptance. But I'm still trying to find a word for someone who wants to practice knowing full well that they will have: a) little time for family b) long hours c) off-duty hours d) oh, did I mention that the long hours just plain suck?!?!

I think "passion" might fit well for describing someone who is practicing. But there is a lot of honor if your heart is in the right place.

believe that word you're looking for is "nuts."
