Not that I'm against giving away the keys to the farm just to get in, I'd say that the KEY is in two words:
STATE SCHOOL
anyone who thinks otherwise......lives in Cali.
I live in California and I think otherwise. I agree that the key is motivation. No, take that one back. Passion more like it! If you are passionate about it, you are motivated. Either that or thick skin to not take all the rejections personally.
It encompasses motivation and goes beyond. Anyone can be motivated, but to carry out that motivation you need to perservere against all adversity, all opposition.

I'm with Foxy - patience. Especially this year. I'll also add preparedness - for interviews, secondaries, personal statements, paying for the whole thing.....

•All of the above, plus being a knowledgeable applicant. Finding SDN is half the battle!! •••••I got to agree with this one! Applying would have been much easier if I knew about SDN. If I have to reapply next year, I feel I will be extremely prepared because of SDN and my own experience.
Motivation may be the #1 secret for medical school acceptance. But I'm still trying to find a word for someone who wants to practice knowing full well that they will have: a) little time for family b) long hours c) off-duty hours d) oh, did I mention that the long hours just plain suck?!?!
I think "passion" might fit well for describing someone who is practicing. But there is a lot of honor if your heart is in the right place.
