The 2007 Interview Invites Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
what does it take to get a yale interview? do they send invites to better applicants first?

Thomas Jefferson (philly) (also still waiting on yale)

except...that wouldn't work, since programs only see your pic AFTER they invite you for an interview....but at least we now have a rationale for rejections post-interview.

But anyway. In terms of invites...today brought Kaiser Santa Clara - via email/eras.

i heard they can see pics before they invite you this year. they changed the rules.

my bad. so i guess how fetching you are in your picture really could play a role...although this is IM, not derm...:meanie:

After a long delay and some anxiety regarding my incomplete transcript.....Yale interview offer today. Excited...and the video on the website makes New Haven look great.

Still no love from umich (and I'm from the region)....I don't understand this process at all...argh. 😕

I got UCSF last week, but have not heard from a lot of other good programs that others have- Duke, U chicago, yale, etc....kinda weird

No word from UCSF or Penn here. Also waiting on Stanford, U Chicago. I dont think the Harvard programs send them out till after the Deans Letter on Nov 1, someone correct me if I am mistaken. Also waiting on UVA. Getting pretty tired of it.

Yeah I just got an invite from U of Rochester this afternoon...

havn't heard from the Harvards, NW, U of C, Cornell, Columbia or Hopkins, Hopkins-B either... I did hear from Hopkins-Sinai though.

I got Rush, Yale, U of Rochester, Albert Einstein, Wayne State and many community programs.... I applied to 36 total!.... couldn't decide if I wanted community vs. big name University.... still am unsure!

Haven't heard from UCSF either...interesting, I thought the most competitive programs waited until after the Dean's letter?

Adding Alameda County Hospital (Oakland) today 10/15

I was surprised when I got an invite on a Sunday 😱..... this is just going to feed into my impulse to check my email 500 times a day.

UT Houston (10/14)

Have heard from: Southwestern, UT-San Antonio, Scott & White, Vanderbilt, Duke, Dartmouth.

For those of you who have heard from Yale New Haven, is it the categorical or the primary care program?

Primary Care Program...

Got an invite from AE/Jacobi today....

GOT A WEIRD e-mail from Yale-Bridgeport basically asking 'how interested I am in primary care/geriatrics' and if I'm 100% sure that I want primary care to e-mail them back ASAP. WTF?!?!?

For me, categorical

Medical Univ of South Carolina
Univ of Florida - Gainesville
Univ of Iowa
Ohio St Univ
Univ of Kentucky
Medical College of Wisconsin
UC Irvine
Univ of Southern California
Univ of Minnesota
Robert Wood Johnson
University of New Mexico
University of Oklahoma

Heard from AE/Jacobi and St. Vincent's (manhattan) today. Both of these programs assigned an interview day (jacobi offered 2 and svmc gave one). Is that typical of NYC programs?

Got an eras message from Drexel on 10/8

Yeah the AE/Jacobi, only left two dates... I'm wondering if they have already sent out interviews to other candidates earlier?!? hmmmmmmmm or is it just two dates?!?

they probably just want to make sure you're committed to the primary care track and not planning on trying to switch into the categorical after you match... i've heard about residents doing that in the past, since it's easier to match into the primary care tracks at these programs.

Submitted ERAS 9/24 (all but one LOR in, and obv no MSPE yet)

Scripps Green
UTSW
USC
UCI
Baylor
Albert Einstein (Montefiore)
New York Medical
Tufts
Kaiser Oak, SF, Santa Clara
UPMC

anyone hear from the other Cali programs (i.e. Stanford, UCLA, UC Davis, Cedars, etc?)

Thanks and good luck to all!

I received my email from AE-Jacobi in early October with only two options for interviewing. Some of my classmates have heard from Jacobi, but none of my friends at AECOM have heard from them, which I find strange. However, I am still waiting to hear from Montiefore and Beth Israel (NYC)

which AECOM program is the more reputable one? montefiore?

Those who have heard from Univ. of Chicago and Columbia...is that the primary care track or the categorical track?

I have a feeling the primary care tracks are sending out interviews before the categoricals.

Looks like it's now gonna be a slow trickle till after Nov. 1😴

categorical at U of Chicago for me as well.

Interviews scheduled thus far:
Columbia
Duke
Mayo-Rochester
Mayo-Scottsdale
USC
UCI
Yale (new haven)
Dartmouth (still deliberating)
Vanderbilt

Hoping for, but have not heard back (praying...)
MGH
BWH
UCSF
UCLA
Penn
Cornell

Do not plan to interview more than 10 programs, so will cancel if I get more invites.

Also got the weird Yale-Bridgeport email:

"Dear Applicant,

Due to the increasing shortage of primary care doctors and geriatricians in this country we are selectively interviewing some applicants who plan to pursue these specialties following residency training. To date, we've not invited you for an interview, not because your credentials are problematic but because this year's crop of applicants is extremely talented. If you are 100% sure that primary care or Geriatrics is your career path, please let us know ASAP."

I checked on ERAS...the Yale-Bridgeport program only offers a categorical track (that is the only option available to click on, i.e. not categorical vs. primary care). Anyone know how to respond to this if we want an interview there but are not 100% set on going into primary care?

scheduled interviews:

1) Yale (primary care track) New Haven

3) U of Rochester

Yale - New Haven (Categorical) today...

Hi all,

Just wondering how complete is everyone's application right now (Dean's Letter not included)? Are you still waiting for LORs? I'm pulling my teeth to get this LOR that I've been waiting for more than 3 months. I'm just curious at what point is considered late for the LORs to be in. Does this affect my chances of getting interviews at all?

Thanks all for the input.

okay so far for me 8/12 i applied to:

Umich
UC-Irvine
USC
Scripps Green
Rush
Loyola
UIC
Evanston NW

I'm kinda surprised by so many invites before the dean's letter comes out.
