The 2007 Interview Invites Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hey buddy,

Just got rejected from BWH too! I am also AOA, Step I 240, step 2 pending (next month), mostly A's (or honors in my third year). I think what did me in is a combination of my PS (which I basically strongly said that I was interested in Primary Care) + the fact that I have zero publications (although + research). I think the Harvards want people who may pursue fellowship or who have a strong desire to do research..... arghghghgh still I HATE getting rejections 🙁

Its all completely random. I got rejected today too. Junior AOA, number 10 in my class, step 1 > 250, step 2 > 270, research, and still no go. Its ok though, I am happy with the ones I have and if they didn't like what they saw in my application then I guess its not a good fit. Still waiting on MGH, UCSF, Stanford, and UofC. We'll see what happens.

Jeebus...you can score over 270??? I can barely count that high...

I agree. Also got the rejection (my first) from brigham today (sigh).

AOA, Step I > 245, Step II results anyday, tons of research with 4 original publications (2 first author).

I think brigham's gotta be one of those places where you gotta know the secret handshake or something. Anyway...congrats to those who did get the interview!!

I too will wait (check email q 10 min) for U of chicago, MGH, BIDC, Stanford, and surprisingly UCSD (wtf...maybe its cause i'm not from the west coast).

I also got BWH rejection today.

Don't try to over analyze the Brigham rejection. They see the creme de la creme of medical graduates the world over. I'm guessing you need a certain "razz-a-ma-tazz" to get their attention (death in the family, saved someone's life in the freezer section of Wal-Mart, saved a whale, etc.).

Ocean11, there's no reason to beat yourself up for emphasizing primary care in your personal statement. Remember, this process is about finding the right "fit" not the right "Harvard"🙄. I have a feeling that Brigham, MGH, and especially BID would not be intense enough for me...

i just noticed their interns get 50k a year. wow.

Thanks for all the replies about Brigham. At least I don't feel too upset now about getting rejected. I know this whole process is random and some schools are looking for some things while others are looking for other things, but it is just frustrating to see that rejection after all the hard work of 4 years of medical school with successful results to prove it....

Anyway, I'll hope for the best that I get some of these other interviews- BID, MGH, Columbia, UPENN, and Duke (But I won't hold my breath!)

Anyway what is supposed to be the "most competitive" and most prestigious Harvard program- Brigham Woman's or MGH? I am just asking because I thought it was always MGH but due to the highly selective criteria of Brigham, I'm not so sure....(although MGH didn't send out their interviews yet)

Yeah... got the BWH rejection today as well (first one).. I know, I know they're hyperocompetitive, interview a relatively small group compared to their side, etc.... Still, it stings a little, but good to know I'm not alone. Congratulation on our one co-SDN er who got an interview....

Now... back to waiting for MGH and Columbia

MGH is the most prestgious IMHO but BWH is certainly more selective. If you look at FREIDA MGH gives 400+ interviews but BWH only gives 100.

Wow, UCSF, BWH, MGH rejections in one day. Now I'm definitely not quite as optimistic as my previous post. What a day.

Me too. triple rejection in one day. Did they hear JHU rejection yesterday and want to keep up with the pace? Does early rejection time equal to more prestigious program?🙄

Todays rejects: UCSF, MGH, Brigham.

My BID invite doesn't seem so great now.

Rejection number 2- MGH!!!

Just got rejected like Mugsy Bogues trying to dunk over Yao Ming.....

Got one more Harvard program to go- BID...Not liking my chances!

No rejections from Harvard programs thus far...probably because I didn't apply...good for you guys who at least applied and took a chance...you'll never have to think about what could have been!

I applied to 10 programs:

Interviews at:
1. Vanderbilt
2. UAB
3. Emory
4. Duke
5. UVA
6. UTSW
7. UNC

Waiting to hear back from:
8. MGH
9. BID
10. UPenn

I can finally stop checking my email every 5 minutes. I got interviews at UPenn, MGH and BIDMC!!!

Looks like the Harvard schools have spoken this week.

BIDC - interview (11/12)
BWH - rejection today
MGH - interview today

Based on the posts in this forum, it does seem that BWH is the most selective.

Offered MGH today late in the day.... dulls the Brigham rejection a bit....

:luck:

ME TOO! MGH Interview invite today! with a Brigham rejection! Well I'd rather have it this way

SOOOO excited about MGH! man..... who would have thought!

Good Luck everyone!

BWH and MGH rejection today.

Cornell invite today.

dude... rejections from UCSF and Stanford today that were emailed within 10 minutes of each other😱!!! i bet those 2 bay area programs conspired to synergistically bitch slap me. its ok, i knew they were long shots for me anyway. 😎

i'm pretty happy w/ the interviews i already have. 👍

first 2 rejections today, MGH and BWH. Oh well, didn't wanna go there anyways. 😀 Did get BID, penn, and ucsf in the recent days.

Still waiting from u of chicago, NW, Stanford, UWash, UCSD (wtf? why do they think they're hot stuff)

Still no word yet from BID, UPenn, Duke or Columbia.....

I'd like to at least know if I am getting these interviews already, although since it is getting late, I won't bank on it.

Good luck all!

Boston Univ invite today 🙂

It was nice to see this thread get bumped up again. The rejections thread was reigning supreme for the last couple of days. There's still hope!

-adding stanford.

bruin,

when did you hear from them? By email or reg mail?

still waiting on them and trying to figure out if I should just forget about them or not.

Finally U of Chicago today, kind of late but thats ok. Feels good after the long list of rejections last week!

Plan on going to 10 or 11 I think. Of course this is very dependent on how far I can stretch my funding!
Waiting on UWash and Stanford (not too much hope for this one)

Big ups on UofC guys👍👍

Was really hoping to hear from them, but after getting a dirty sanchez from JHU, Havahd, UCLA, and UWash (today)...I think it's only a matter of time before they give me the finger.

Maybe all the studs getting BWH and MGH are cancelling UofC, so these interviews will start to trickle down to the scrubs...one can only hope.

Tufts for me today too...but still sad from UCSD rejection 🙁

I think there are few Tufts dates left. I tried to change my interview from 12/4 to 12/18 or 12/20 and those dates were not available. They need to update lists.

northwestern rejection! wtf? Oh well, still happy with UChicago today

Is the well known Northwestern the one in Chicago or the one in Evanston?

Northwestern steps in and delivers a right cross square on the chin...BND staggers to his knees...

I think my cut man is gonna have to throw in the towel soon.

Still hoping for UofC and Columbia...

got the boot from mt. sinai and NW as well. really disappointed by the first but expected. second one was not expected.

its strange how some of you with such stellar scores/status got rejected from NW. i feel like they randomly pick like a 1000 applications to review and give interviews to like 400 and then the next 1000 applicants have an uphill battle to boot out the first 400.

cornell today! 🙂

not many dates left so i am guessing i was in the "maybe" pile

i'd have to agree w/ you... but on the flip side. i don't have stellar scores/status and shockingly got an interview invite from them. sorry to those who didn't get invited there... i'm sure you got great ones lined up though!👍

First off, congrats on all the interviews👍 I am very surprised you haven't heard from Yale, but I guess this is the arbitrary nature of the match.

Second, I am not trying to single you out, but I noticed you have 19 interviews and you obviously aren't going to go on all of these. This is likely a significant reason why some (myself included) aren't getting invites to some of these places. I read a post earlier in the year that encouraged people to cancel the interviews they will not attend, but so many on here are holding interviews with captions that say (will not attend, etc.).

Again, not trying to single you out...but those of you with interivews that you know you're not going to attend, it would be considerate to go ahead and cancel.

No, you're right, my bad. I will cancel a few of these that I am absolutely sure about tomorrow, as well as some others that I did not list. I sort of applied very broadly because I wasn't sure where I'd hear from, and where I want to go.

What's the secret recipe for uwash, eh? 😉
