Hey guys! I don't know if a thread has already been started for the 5/27 MCAT, though I'm pretty sure it hasn't. In any case, I'm popping my thread starting cherry with this one so hopefully I'm doing it right 🙂
I know it's still 5.5 months away, but it's never to early for anything med school related, right? 😀

I'm sure scoring a 36 on your first practice also helped you decide not to reschedule 😀

That may be so but who knows, it was AAMC 3 and I could have just gotten lucky on the topics.

The reality is, I'm having a very hard time sticking to my study schedule due to school and research commitments.

The only way I've been able to stay on schedule (I'm actually 1 day behind as of today) is by not sleeping or by sleeping 4-5 hours a night.

Tell me about, 18 credits (about 6 credits less than my previous 4 semesters) here going into finals week while working 40 hours a week.

I'm working my butt off, and the closer it gets to test day the more daunting everything gets.

I just took the free TPR exam and that thing was a big blow to the ego...

Hey Guys!

I'm writing on this date as well. I'm re-writing a 32S. Haven't really started studying, but I'm a biochem major so I think 30 days of h-core cramming will suffice... hopefully. How's the studying going for everyone else?

Best of luck! 🙂

LOL, don't worry about it, the TPR practice exams are not really representative of the AAMC ones. The science sections require calculations which aren't really a large part of the actual mcat, and verbal passages are much longer. Try an AAMC and you'll feel better. 🙂

Any comparisons between Kaplan and AAMC?? Im concerned that my AAMC score will plummet from my Kaplan score :/

Advice????

Great job, Turtle, nice trend there! 👍

For PS---I assume you're reviewing Every.Single.Problem (whether you got it right or wrong) for reasoning, etc.?

I have had to make a sheet of formulas/relationships, and trends, and I periodically review them alongside practice problems, and when I'm reviewing problems. With the sheet next to me, I try to figure out if I could have gotten to the right answer quicker/better/whatever.

Keep up the good work! 😀

Thats great advice!! I know my weakness is in PS, but I plan on really homing in on it after finals 🙂 I do review every problem though

Aaaaahhhhhhhhhhh!!!

ONE DAY TIL MAY!!!

STUDY STUDY STUDY PEOPLE

Hey Maneuver!! I envy you! I just saw that you made a 36 on your practice! WHAT THE HELL!
Working my ass of to get a 35?! U people throw the curve lol
hahah
Respect 👍

Is anyone else feeling distracted because of finals? I'm having a hard time doing MCAT related stuff because of finals, ahh. Whatever, idc, starting today I'm going to do one verbal exam a day during finals week 🙂

Kaplan 1st FL: 19: 7P/5V/7B
Kaplan 2nd FL: 28: 9P/7V/12B

I am really hoping to score above a 30. I've got, as all of you do too, ~24 days. I've got ~9 more full lengths lined up.

Thx. I hope, there is an upward trend to this.

And Nope. Nothing but TBR for PS/Orgo and EK for Bio.

In my experience, Kaplan was much more difficult than the AAMC tests. And also, of note, the AAMC tests (while they were the closest thing to the actual MCAT) were slightly easier than the real deal.

Good movement Koug. I'm envious.
I'm worrying I'm going to go down in my practice scores, been studying my butt off then I walked into TPR diagnostics and GS diagnostics and got smacked back to reality getting a 24 on each one.
Going to take AAMC 4 on Wednesday, hopefully it'll boost my moral a bit.

Yea, thx. 28 is not a great score, however, I was pleasently surprised, just by the fact that it was a 9 point improvement. The remainder of the month, I am looking to do ~9-10 more exams (2 Kaplan, 7 AAMC).

I really hope to break a 30. Im done with content and will pretty much do an exam every other day starting in 3 days. I hope I don't burn out.

Good luck everyone,
Wish you all the best. Study efficiently.👍

AAMC 4: 10/7(embarrassing)/10

This is the first time I've sat down and taken a full FL due to "life". I've only ever taken FLs in sections, I couldn't concentrate during verbal at all. I usually average 10s in EK verbal 101 and Kaplans verbal.

I think I'll be fine (1 more question right in each section would have given me an 11/8/11) just need to work on endurance.

Back to the EK 101 book until Saturday.

Hey all. I'm technically in the 5/27 club, but I recently decided to apply next year instead of this year. I don't feel adequately prepared at all. Do you think I should reschedule to this September or to next spring? Thanks!

Umm...regardless of whenever you apply. I think you should continue your MCAT studies because you do not want to start from scratch all over again. Because believe me, you will forget.

I studied last year, didn't apply, waited till this year, and had to study all over again because I forgot all that I studied last year this time.

hey guys, if you have used/are using EK physics, can you explain to me what does each of the variables mean in this equation?

v/c = change in f/fs = change in lambda/lambda

im so used to the PR's large equation, but want to know about this one because it's probably going to save me some time..thanks! and happy studying!

v=actually velocity of wave
c=speed of light (3x10^8)
f=actual frequency
fs=frequency if stationary
change in lambda=actual change of wavelength
lambda=wavelength if stationary

I've found almost always you'll be given fs and lambda, with the third variable up for grabs.

Kaplan #2 (2003 version): 9/10/9...the closer test day gets the more ridiculous some of the scores people post on SDN seem to look.

Finals week next week, then I can really start torturing myself with studying!

Good luck everyone!!! I just got accepted into medical school on Friday, so I cancelled my reservation for re-taking the MCAT!

Yeah, I put off studying for finals until, well, after finals week. Luckily, I had done enough doing the semester to give me plenty of breathing room, and since every final was comprehensive, I remembered the majority of the material.

Now if only I had studied MCAT during all my free time last week...

Just sharing my MCAT progress: Currently....in a time crunch.

Been busy with work. Haven't had much time to take FLs.

I am hoping I've got enough time to take 11 exams, starting 05/11/10.

Yeah... almost identical situation here. With school just finishing, I've been CRAZY unmotivated, but hopefully the '17 days left' mentality will really kick in and help me live on minimal sleep. lol.

Best of luck!! From now until the end it's gonna be coupling memorization with/in&between passages/FLs. @_@

GL everyone. :luck::xf:

I know! I'm getting nervous a bit, I take my 5th AAMC exam tomorrow afternoon (#7) we'll see how it goes.

I've just been taking an MCAT and reviewing the next two days the concepts I missed questions on. I go over the whole test looking at questions I missed AND got correct. I review PS the first day after the test, then BS the 2nd day. 3rd day take an MCAT then rinse and repeat.

We'll see how this helps. Anyone have any good short term tips to get some high yield studying in for some of these concepts?

Good luck everyone!

How have you been doing on your AAMCs?

Today I start my marathon of AAMC tests, 7 tests (6 practice plus the real thing) in 13 days. Going to try to get into a grove so I can trick myself into thinking the real thing is just another practice test.

Took a break from posting while working on content review. I started running AAMC CBT's on May 4th, and began going back through chapters around the same date.

5/4/10 AAMC3- 34
5/10/10 AAMC4- 38
5/15/10 AAMC5- 35

SN2ed's schedule has been working really well for me (Princeton Review, Berkley, Examkrackers combo). After my final exams this week, I plan on running AAMC CBT 6-10.

Great scores, especially AAMC4! I would be just a tad under you if I could figure out wtf is going on with my verbal. It is starting to get to me, the ironic thing is before I started studying for the MCAT VR was my strongest section, sure hope I can get this figured out...:scared:

Is anyone taking the GS tests? I just took GS1 and it killed me(7/na/7). :scared:

Personally if I were you, I'd stay away from the GS tests (unless you're out of tests). Those things just shot my confidence in the foot and I think it is getting to close to the test day to screw with your confidence.

Just took AAMC6, finally got my verbal back up (after a pair of "7s"): 11/11/11 hopefully it wasn't a fluke, I'd be more than happy with this score on test day.

MLT2MT2DO, which verbal book are/were you using to study? I started on Examkrackers and later switched to Princeton. Princeton's "shakespeare/old english/political run-on" passages repeatedly kicked my butt throughout the workbook. However, they were good training because I'm now finding AAMC's practice passages to be a lot easier than any of Princeton's passages.

Yep, I am all out of tests, I guess I am going to use the GS to nail the timing. That is awesome@verbal, How did you get it up?

If I had enough time to get a copy of that delivered I'd probably do that (Idaho isn't populated enough to carry any decent MCAT prep books in their bookstores), I'm using EK101 and the passage just read too easy compared to the MCAT IMO.

My verbal started out high ~10, I'm my own worst enemy when it comes to verbal. If I can maintain my concentration I can get a 10+, if I drift off during a passage it is a total crapshoot.

I will be voiding.

Not getting 10s on verbal just yet. Possibly postponing to July.

Good luck to everyone.

Sorry to hear that Koug, but probably better to be completely prepared.

Every now and again I think about rescheduling because my verbal fluctuates from test to test, but this test has eaten up enough of my life, I'm ready to be done with it.

4 more to go, I have one more FL to go Monday and then its all review. Hows everyone doing on the FL's, The GS's are making me want to die, but atleast its some FL practice.

This is my first go (and hopefully last) with the MCAT so I haven't had to resort to GS for FL practice (actually wish I would have never bought them even though they are so cheap).

I'm doing alright on my AAMCs, my composite goes as my verbal goes...pretty much every test I'm 10-11 on PS and 10-11 on BS, then my verbal has been 7 or 11. I'm doing #10 today and #9 on Tuesday.

AAMC
4: 10/7/10
5: 11/8/10
6: 11/11/11
8: 10/10/10
7: 10/8/11

Heres how I am doing on GS:
GS1: 7/na/7
GS2: 8/5/6
GS3: 9/na/10
GS4: 8/10/8
GS5: 8/9/7(kicked out of the library before i could finish, Randomly guessed on the last 2 passages)

I really hope this is not an reflection of the real score, I might as well as void and stick to my previous score. I guess I will know better after the AAMC

AAMC

6- 14/11/13
7-13/9/14

7's verbal was awful. If I have time after Lost's last episode tonight, I plan to run AAMC8. AAMC 9 and 10 over the next few days. We're on-deck!

AAMC

7 - 11/11/14
8 - 14/11/12
9 - 13/10/12
10 - 14/12/13

here's to hoping the real thing somewhat reflects AAMC!

good luck to everyone! don't forget to relax on wednesday!

Heres how I am doing on GS:
GS1: 7/na/7
GS2: 8/5/6
GS3: 9/na/10
GS4: 8/10/8
GS5: 8/9/7(kicked out of the library before i could finish, Randomly guessed on the last 2 passages)

Don't put much stock into GS, I did 2 of there test and got an "8" on both, been avging 10s and 11s on AAMCs.

AAMC 10: 11/10/9, again as goes verbal so does my score. For what it is worth, I was one question right in each section from a 12/11/10.

I didn't care for AAMC 7's verbal either, it was a real confidence blow.

Those are some really impressive scores LZ, many say AAMC 10 is the best representation of your real exam. If that is the case you'll probably have your pick of school.

OK, starting to freak out a little bit.

AAMC averages are 9.5, 10.5, 9.5. I would be ecstatic with a 30 on Test Day, but would settle for anything over 27.

At this point, I feel like it just depends what topics the passages cover on Physical Sciences. If they're favorable to my strengths, I feel like I could pull an 11 or 12, but if I get unlucky and make a few mistakes, a 7 is definitely possible.
