😕 Calling on the spirits of SLOR wisdom . . . 😕

My home progam says that the only person who can write my SLOR is the PD, who works at a different hospital than I did so I never got to work with him (I was at a secondary site).
The PD will check all the boxes that correspond to my HP grade and then insert the 2 or 3 sentences of comments I got from the faculty at the bottom of the form. Is this common that programs will only let the PD write SLORs?

I was hoping to get my SLORs from people who actually knew me, but my program says they will not allow anyone but the PD to write a SLOR. So, I guess that means I also need to designate one of my personal letters from the secondary site, which I believe is an outstanding letter. And I have one letter from a Medicine chief that is outstanding. That only leaves room for one more letter, but 2 visiting rotations. Guess I have to choose one and then if anyone asks why I don't have a letter from X location just say I had already reached my max of 4 letters?

Also, one more question. Most programs have deadlines for all materials to be submitted by some date (like Nov 1 for example). So, lets say I'm rotating somewhere now and my SLOR is not released until Nov 30 (hey, checking those boxes takes a lot of thought  and they have to wait until my grade is posted 😡). Does that mean that even if I designate this letter to X program, that program won't download it once it is scanned in on Nov 30? I know that a letter that late doesn't help me get interviews, but I would like the program to have it when I go there for the interview.

It is common for programs to want to do a composite letter, often over the PD and Asst PDs signatures. I didn't know any programs were forbidding other faculty from writing their own letter.

When we open the post office, it downloads all new documents. They'll have the letter once it's posted. Whether we'll read it . . .
