An interesting question was raised about my Personal Statement and the appropriate use of D.O. or DO.

In my statement should it be written as DOs or D.O.s?

Thanks for the insight

i think the grammatically correct way to write any abbreviation is with periods after the letters. good question tho. there may be some weird exception when writing initials for degrees.

I thought so too, But MDs are written without periods. So hence why I am confused.

Thanks Ry,

If you're talking about for your personal statement or something, nobody will even notice, regardless of how you write it.

on a more practical note, you may need EVERY last character for your PS, especially on AACOMAS, so you might not have a choice but to use "DO" instead of "D.O." That was my experience, anyway.

To save characters, I wrote my personal statement like a text message:

"ur goin 2 let me n2 ur med school LOL"

If its in your personal statement just define the abreviation befor you use it(which is what you are suppose to do in most formal things). So if you write doctor of osteopathy(DO) you can define it however you want.

Good points everyone, thanks!

That was awesome.
