I am just now going to med school, since this forum has tons of posters, I was just curious what the average week for a first year resident. The 80 hour work week sounds tough, but I am not sure I am hearing the whole story ... especially if people have time to do stuff like moonlighting....

First year residents, or interns, don't moonlight in the U.S. There's not a single state that allows independent practice without at least a year of post-graduate medical education and completion of USMLE step 3.

Of course you're not hearing the whole story, but relaying the whole story to you now is of little value. You'll see what it's like when you start clinical rotations. If you can't wait that long, then I'm sure you could find a mentor/preceptor that could set you up to shadow some residents.
