Just to relieve some of the stress, i thought it would be fun to start a thread on the best and the worst things people experienced on interviews. Some will probably think this a bit queer, but if it gains some momentum, maybe you will change your mind

Henry Ford Hospital - St Regis hotel.

Nice hotel, close to hospital. Big puffy comforter.

Wayne State- The cold cuts were fine but where were the napkins?

that HAS to trump the no napkin thing!

Wayne State- one pot of coffee for 23 candidates. 😴

I second Ursus on UNC - Sushi and ahi tuna steak makes me 🙂

Miami consisted of interviews with the faculty at random times in the morning.... and you don't interview the chairman per policy. He wasn't even there in the day I interviewed.

it was a few years ago and i wont say where, but when i interviewed at one place...they totally forgot we were coming that day.

Oh man, you should have saved that for the end, it is going to be hard to top that one

This position we have grown to love or hate depending on the institution. I nominate Vicki at Mayo. You don't have to wait more than a couple hours for her to respond to any emails/calls during the day.

At NYU, one of their newest attendings from MDACC, puts up a CT and pimps you on the thorax anatomy for the last several minutes of the interview. I now wonder about that place.

I totally second that one, Vicki's the best! 👍 Also, the residents there are awesome. The dinner the night prior is pretty good too. Didn't go to UNC, so can't compare.

i got a meal at the hospital at hopkins way back when, and it had nutritional content.

I know I have a limited experience with this, but ...

MCW was the only place I've been to that had a non-basement department - even all the equipment (linacs, exam rooms, etc.) was on the 3rd floor, and there was windows! So, I give them: "Most Well-Lit Department That Simul Has Ever Been To" Award. Very prestigious, indeed.

Food was good, too.

University of Utah has the entire first floor of a brand new hospital with amazing views of the salt lake valley, Wasatch and Oquirrh mountain ranges. Plus, the resident's room has windows. PS, each of us gets our own cubicle, computers, and phone

hopkins you get your own cubical, phone, lap top computer that docks into a desktop screen. not bad.

Hey- did anyone else get food poisoning from the Yale food today? I won't go into details but it's ugly - continues to be ugly! Ug

UCLA takes the students to BJs in Westwood for lunch. It's a chain brewpub, but I love the food ... Very nice people in that program.

Hands down Beaumont's jungle gym, accessable throught the courtyard in the department, is among the best and closest I have seen to any hospital. My only complaint: no tetter-totter

Don't forget their indoor garden in the main hospital and the pediatric playpen with playstations hooked up to flat screen plasma TVs.
