So...I'm ashamed to be posting this, but what is the best way to cram for a Gen Chem 2 final? I planned to start studying earlier but I had a huge project to do for one of my classes that was due today at 6 that took far longer than anticipated. On top of that I was busy studying for my anatomy final that is tomorrow.

Basically I will have from 1:00pm tomorrow until 10:30am on Wednesday to study for it. (If it helps, my grades on the three midterms we took were an 87%, a 96%, and an 88%). My overall grade in the class right now is a 93.5%.

Ugh! I'm so nervous about this! I want to keep my A!! 🙁

Thanks in advance!

(P.S. Please, don't tell me I should have started studying earlier. I already know that.)

Can someone just humor me here? It's been a rough week... 🙄

get off sdn and hop to it! other than that i have no real advice. but i'll humor you by doing a dance.
*does a dance*
all better?

Turn everything off including your computer and television. Go through your notes and write down things you think might be on the test to study from. Then keep going over this. Make sure you know all your equations... etc

Go into the test with zero expectations, and have a good ol' "I don't effing care" attitude. Worked for me, I didn't study for my gen chem 1 final and got a 90. :meanie:

Like others said, turn everything electronic off. Hole yourself up in your room or in the library, and study like there's no tomorrow.

Study the high yield info only. What did your instructor spend the most time on? Focus on rate laws and acid-base rxns. Chem profs love acid-base rxns. 🙂 and know how to do a titration problem. Good luck.

Make a list of all of the equations you need to know. Make sure you understand every part of each equation. Then do every problem at the end of the chapters. Like they said, shut off all electronic equipment except a light. 😀

I suggest going over your own notes or the professor notes if they are posted online and re-doing as much as the homework problems as possible. I basically re-did the entire quarter's worth of assigned problems before the final as part of my review. Walked away with A's all 3 quarters.

I did it at the cafeteria with my ex-gf.

Ended up setting the curve for that class.

I didn't do any homework before that.

ok so basically i did this cramming thing for every test in college and it seemed to work out for me, ill tell u what worked for me

my plan was to not sleep at all, at times when i took 1 or 2 hour naps my head would feel weird and I would end up doing worse on the tests
basically for chem 2 for me was just doing all the problems in the back of the chapters, chem 2 was understanding the main concepts and almost no memorization so it shouldn't require too much time, just make a plan for every hour and pace yourself, also chances are u will not have time to finish everything so u need to pick and choose what to study

I thought you said you were gay? <-- Serious question, not being a smart***.

Avoid staying up all night. No test is worth that.

+1. All nighters may work for some people; in fact I know some classmates who still do it in med school. It never worked for me! All it did was get me sick, and I'd make stupid mistakes on the exam - I was lucky I didn't drag my grade down b/c of all nighters!

If I remember right, gen chem has a lot of math. So, I would treat it similar to math classes - do a lot of problems! You're professor probably suggests problems from a book - do those, and any others that look similar.
There is some non-math stuff too, so just study those in a way that works for you. If you're an auditory learning, read it aloud; if you're kinestetic, try rewriting the more high yield notes (since you won't get through it all in one day); if you're visual, rewrite in many colors. (these are just examples, if you have something else that works, then do that)

I'm going to jump on the bandwagon and say do problems as well. My gchem tests were entirely problems, no memorization so doing problems is what helped me. Just definitely know how to do the problem and do as many as you can. Also, make sure you know the equations pretty well.

I can actually do all-nighters but i haven't really pulled one since sophmore year. It works really well for me as long as I have nothing else to do that day but if I have other studying/volunteering etc., I can't do it. I figure, if you can study AND sleep then why not?

good luck on the test. Gchem bites.

Best way to study gen chem 2: Do practice problems.

Oh, and yeah, get plenty of sleep the night before.

sorry, dude, you're screwed if you have to "cram" for one of those general science undergrad courses.

believe, when I was in undergrad I tried, and failed, to cram for basic bio, basic chem. They just throw too much material in those classes to make it possible. You MUST spend a little time each day studying for those classes...throughout the semester!

The best thing you can hope to do is to cram for one specific aspect/concept the course taught, and make sure you ace that part of the test. But yea....not much you can do now 🙁

Thanks for the advice everyone!

Yeah, I can't do all nighters. I'm thinking about just starting with the oldest stuff and working my way ahead from that doing all of the problems. Starting...now.

To be fair, I didn't think I was gay at the time. I was also a virgin...

I think people are too sensitive these days...

I went through sensitivity training camp in 11th grade and I think I saw more tears there than I did in an entire year on the oncology ward.
