I love Chad's videos for gChem and Ochem, but sometimes I need a video to explain Bio for me.

This biology course by Thinkwell:
http://www.thinkwell.com/student/product/biology
has videos, quizzes, and additional content. But it costs $150.

Fortunately, all the same videos are posted for free on two different websites:
http://www.5min.com/Tag/George wolfe thinkwell?CategoryID=0
http://www.mefeedia.com/feeds/92219/5min-thinkwell-studio-videos/oldest

I admit that this guy, George Wolfe, is cheesy and teaches at an AP high school level. However I haven't ever taken a comprehensive biology class so there are gaps in my basic biology knowledge base.

I don't recommend that anyone watch all of the movies, it would take too much time. But what I do is go to the first link, look for something that I know is on the DAT but I've never learned about it before (like fungi, animal phylums, etc.), and then look for that specific video on one of the two second links.

Hopefully this helps someone else who's looking for video-biology instruction.

Professor Wolfe is a great instructor. I actually have a subscription through Thinkwell for biology, chemistry, trigonometry, and algebra. All of their products are amazing although they can take a hit on your pocket book very quickly.

I'm not sure if the posted link has all the videos or not but if you can purchase a real subscription, I would recommend it. Everything is laid out very nice and videos are categorized into individual sections.

Furthermore, Thinkwell has notes and homework sets for each video.

I think these site have all the videos.

Avery07 did you find the supplemental material of the actual course useful? Were the quizzes any good?

I think the supplemental material is great. I mean for each video there is a homework assignment of 8 to 25 problems. I think anytime that you get exposure to a new question, you are that much better off. Yes, some of the questions are easy, but there are also a good number of difficult problems to solve. I'd say it's probably 50:50 in terms of easy:hard questions. Their assignments really require you to comprehend the material.

The only problem (DATwise) that I see is that this company covers EVERYTHING. Like.. people and history as well as concepts. For their evolution module, there is an entire subsection devoted to the life and history of Darwin and his voyage on the Beagle. Although I do enjoy this stuff, it is just irrelevant for the DAT.

But by the end of watching those videos and completing the excercises, you will probably know anything that you could ever get tested on in reference to the DAT.. and for that matter your own science classes.

I purchased my subscription back in December for the DAT but found myself actually using these videos to supplement what I was learning in lecture. Professor Wolfe makes the concepts easy to understand and really nails the fundamentals of every biology concept.

I use this with CliffsAP and KBB to make sure I get the whole picture and I think a combination like that puts you in a great position.

Does anyone have the thinkwell video anywhere? they aren't available at those links anymore and I can only find short sample ones 😡

I'm interested in getting the subscription. After watching Chad's videos, I realized that this type of videos with things explained to me suites my learning style. I like it a lot better than sitting in front of a desk and reading. Can someone who has used this site give some opinions about the quality of the videos and how useful they are? I'm also wondering about how long they are. If the whole thing is hundreds of hours long, I might not have time to finish them before my DAT. 🙁

Thanks 😀
