i dont think living at home will have a negative impact. many ppl commute due to a variety of reasons. i think your involvement on campus will allow the adcoms to see your desire and motivation. i think you should include that in your personal statement.

Hey man, another approach you might think about taking is telling about something that you might have gained through commuting. I mean I'm sure it definitely made you manage your time better, so you could write about that, or if family was something that was really important to you, you could write about how living at home allowed you to stay connected with them even during college. But yeah dude, I feel you. I commute from valencia to ucla once a week and that's only a 3 hour round trip, so adding another hour plus doing it everyday must really suck. Anyways good luck with your ps!
