Take your pick: One Week or Seven Days until The Match

This means more videos!

I think one week left calls for keyboard cat:

Sadly I hear keyboard cat is no longer with us 🙁

Anyone see any good movies lately? I just saw Atonement via Netflix. Slow-paced, but good movie. I thought it was clever how the typewriter clicks become integrated into the soundtrack. Also clever how Briony's emotions are a complex mix of remorse and jealousy of her sister.

My son has been watching Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs lately. Mr. T is hysterical in it.

Lately, I have been watching the show "Archer" on FX. I find it irreverently funny.

Also keira knightley is gorgeous. She looked amazing in that green dress.

Four more days.

BUT TOMORROW WE GET THE MATCH or NO MATCH EMAIL!!!!!

Good Luck everyone.

Oh, no! It's now going to be in my head!!!

Ha ha Unmatch day is the most important and nail-biting day for our colleagues going into dermatology, plastic surgery, anaesthesiology, etc. But anything can happen, so good luck to all of us here in psych too, hopefully all our eggs will be sunny side up, and not scrambled.

I'm nervous in the same way I was nervous while waiting for my CS score. I'm about 100% certain I'll match, and I was about 100% certain I'd pass CS. But I'd feel completely horrible if I were wrong. And I'd be completely blindsided, making it even worse.

Best of luck to all today...

I too am going to become a psychiatrist, yay! Now onwards to find out where. 😛

Yay, me too! This week is so exciting, I can't wait for Thursday. 🙂 Good luck to all.

If you log into NRMP you can see the regional match statistics. It looks like 16 spots are available in the scramble. 1 in the west, 4 central, 8 south, and 3 in the NE.

Last year something like 12 were listed, but most of those werent really available.....for example 5 in the "south" were in puerto rico that they weren't looking to fill.

I'd be very surprised if, of those 16, more than 10 will be taken........

My wife has a job! Oh thank you Lord. We're finally going to be a normal heavily-in-debt dual wage earning family. The American Dream has finally come true for us! 😎

Congrats everyone!

Ugh, talking to a friend who's an AMG who did not match in psych. I guess it was a competitive year.

I think *EVERY* amg who applies broadly and goes on enough interviews will match. Below average amg's who only go on 7 interviews and 3-4 of those are at longshot places are probably at risk of not matching.

I say that as someone with numerous "issues"(bottom 5% of the class, took 5 years to graduate, 1 board failure) in terms of med school performance and even I matched.

For candidates such as myself, I would have a goal of going on 13-15 interviews, and make sure most of them are at places they have a decent shot at.

As for competitiveness....eh....I think it will still be fairly noncompetitive when the numbers come out. Over on the forum for international/carrib students, there is someone with 3 step1 failures and a cs failure who goes to a carribean school and they just matched.

Yeah, I think that's probably the issue. Psych has a reputation of being so noncompetitive that people feel like 7 interviews is enough, when it's probably not for a certain subset of AMG applicants.

Editing to add that talking with someone who didn't match makes me feel kind of sick. And grateful that I'm not there. Scary stuff.

Wow. I'm going to be a Psychiatrist. I'm going to actually be leaving this town. I will have a job next year. I will earn money rather than increasing my debt. I can focus more on the medical information I like. YES!

Isn't that a great feeling?

Congrats! 🙂

Congrats! Hope everyone heard good news...

couldn't have put it better myself.

Helping a friend (non psych applicant) scramble today. It'll be interesting to see the process, but I'm so glad it's not me.

On a happy note, did you guys see Peppy's post in the ERAS forum. He's going to be a psychiatrist, too!

2 more days till we find out!! I have so much psychomotor agitation from the anticipation! :scared:

I'm kinda not right now. After spending the day with scramblers, I'm just glad to have a spot. All the places on my list are pretty good. And from what I have gathered today, scrambling in psych sucks. Last I heard there were nine available slots, and lots of programs are saying they're going to take several days to make a decision.

I hear you both.

I'm in a hospital right now on a surgical rotation and the surgery attendings have been getting calls regarding the Family medicine program and it's unfilled positions. I walk outside later and am approached by a suited man asking for the family medicine residency. I have no clue at this place and simply direct him to the help desk, hoping they'll straighten him out. I wished him luck!

Competition is fierce for everything!

I'm jittery because I just want to know, and also the difference in happiness between my 1st and 17th choice is considerable.

Why are the surgery attendings getting calls about Family Medicine? Not matching into Family Medicine seems unusual but I suppose anything is possible with individual circumstances. Aren't there 200+ unfilled spots for FM though?

Someone called on behalf of one candidate to the only person they knew remotely close to the program.

I'm nervous in the same way I was nervous while waiting for my CS score.

That was how I felt, too! I matched, thank goodness, but I really want to know where.

I haven't seen a few of my friends who were going into competitive specialties and I really want to know if they matched, but I can't call and ask in case they didn't. 🙁

happy happy match day everyone! the weather in philly is perfect today, and looks like i'm getting four years of days just like this (UCLA all the way)! i feel you, dr. bagel...i have a friend applying in plastics who didn't match, and it definitely put a damper on the occasion. the scramble worked out relatively well for him (he's doing an intern year in gen surg), but it broke my heart watching the panic set it. i think the scramble is as humane as it can realistically/practically be, but it's still pretty rough. good luck, everyone!
