Anybody have any thought/opinions on doing the difficult airway course, especially whether it would be at an appropriate level for an M4?

I'm just finishing up my M3 year and planning on matching EM and have had a month of anesthesia so far during 3rd year. Normally, I wouldn't spend the money, since it's pretty expensive, although I've heard really great things about it. With that said, I've got about $2500 worth of CME money to burn through--yes, I said that right--the Army National Guard gave me some, but I can only use it to do a conference or a course . . . .

I'd definitely use the $$ to go to ACEP before I'd use it for a difficult airway course.

My attendings have said really great things about the course. I don't know if I would do it as MS but it would probably be a fun course any time.

I's also recommend ACEP - it's a lot of fun, and there are meeting and activities especially geared towards students and residents.

Haven't take the course you mention, but there are extra labs at ACEP (one of which is an airway one) where you can also spend CME money.

I attended the course 2 yrs ago and highly recommend it. they go over standard techniques/equipment as well as advanced techniques and equipment and intubation under unusual situations with strange pt placements, etc
they also cover surgical crichs with a pig trachea lab, bipap and cpap and rsi drug combos specific to different situations and most importantly which pts you should never rsi.
I've been involved with emergency medicine and managing airways for almost 23 years and learned a lot from this course...
