hey guys,
so here is my problem. i'm Canadian but not sure if i want to do EM residency in the US or Canada. Now, the only nice 4 week gap I have is in June of 2008, and nothing till November which is too late to get letters and all that. (i'm applying for '09 the match). Should I do the EM elective in the US or Canada. Im just thinking that the US EM programs might view it as a negative if I did my EM elective in Canada and vice-versa. What do you guys think?

Not sure how things are up in canada, but if you get to rotate at an inner city county ED, i would say the states is worth a look. you'll have a blast and get to leave with a some valuable knowledge and great experience.

Also, i'm also not sure as to where EM stands in canada, but in the states it is a rapidly growing and very strong specialty. I also believe our EM programs here are more focused on making EM specialists whereas Canada seems to be lagging a bit behind, taking a more family med slant on things -- i could be wrong about this, though.
