Well, I finished my first year of university with a 74% average. Not anywhere near what I expected, but I suppose it could have been worse. I've asked before but did not receieve a response, so hopefully someone out here can help me.

I know the assignment of letter grades differs between the US and Canada. For my percentage average, that would give me a letter grade average of a B. I believe 74% is a lower grade in the US, maybe a B- or a C+? So, if I was to apply to an American school, would my GPA be calculated based on this "B" average, or on what American schools dictate my average to be?

Thanks.

Edit: Given however you believe my GPA would be calculated, what would my GPA end up being for my first year?

Where I went (Utica College, in upstate NY), a 74 would be a C. Not C+, and under no circumstances a B of any sort. I filled my pre-reqs at Binghamton Univ., also in NY. A 74 would be a C there also.

You don't, however, transfer grades to schools, in my experience. You (situation dependent) get credit for the courses, but not the grades applied to your GPA.

With a C, your GPA at Utica or Binghamton would be a 2.0.
