how much detail do i have to know about the ear, brain and the eye for the mcat?..

you dont need to know details of the brain, eye, and most esp the ear....anything you might need to answer the question will be given in the passage, however, for physics, you gotta know more about optics and lens as it relates to the eyes

Look at the topics listed on the website..
You still need to know general things like how sound gets into the ear, how light goes into the eye, etc..

I posted this in a previous thread:

Ear: Know structures, understand what the impedance mismatch is and the function of the ossicles, know chambers of the cochlea and basic function of hair cells / stereocilia.

Eye: Know function of cornea vs lens, lens characteristics (naturally spherical, etc.), functions of ciliary muscle vs iris contraction, know characteristics of rod and cone photoreceptors and how they work (retinal isomerization and enzyme cascade to membrane permeability), rod bleaching, foveal cone density, and pathway of light through retina (i.e. passes through ganglion cells first, hits photoreceptors last).

Disclaimer: I've taken a course on sensation and perception and I already know all of this stuff backwards and forwards. Still, I think a lot of this stuff is easy to understand and worth knowing.

It is highly unlikely the brain or ear will be tested on the MCAT. But just in case, just learn the major structures of ear and brain. However, they can and will ask you a physics/bio hybrid question about the eye/lens/focal length etc.

Don't listen to this at all.

The BS Topics list says the following:

3. Hearing
a. ear structure
b. mechanism of hearing

This means that anything that falls remotely under that is fair game. In studying, your outlook should be that everything is equally important and has an equal chance of appearing.
