Hi,

When do EC hours approach overkill? I've been doing some volunteering, which I plan to continue, but I have other aspects of my application that I need to work on (research). I haven't calculated how many hours of volunteer-ism I have, but it's less than 100. At what point do you recommend spending more time doing other things? I don't want to be one of those people that have 500 hours of volunteer and nothing else. Also, I've shadowed for about 40-50 hours, which I think is more than enough. Any tips?
thanks!

From my understanding, taking intiative or being involved in leadership with your volunteer work is far more important than a raw number of hours. If you are not stimulated by your volunteer work and just feel that you are "counting the hours," I think its a good idea to stop and switch gears. Do something meaningful and something you enjoy if it works for you and hopefully adcoms will notice that 🙂
