I'm an 18 year old high school student, going into my senior year. I've always done well in school, and am taking AP classes this year in Bio and Chem to broaden my abilities ( and to shine up my college App a little ).
I've been looking around at colleges and options for careers these last few months and optometry has caught my interest. I know i'm only a high school student, and my goals can change within the next year. I would like to at least enter college with some sort of plan. Our Biology class has a job shadowing portion, so i'll be job shadowing an Optometrist then.
I'm going to have my tuition for my first four years of college payed for. Although, my family doesn't have a lot of money, so I'm being told that staying around town going to our local community college would be a good idea. Am I wrong to think I can take out loans the cost of living?
I'm not really sure what i'm trying to ask here. I suppose I'd just like some opinions of people that have been in my place or that can understand where I'm coming from. ** No arguing please** There are just too many options. It's scary. I'm fairly certain I want to do something in the biology field.

Give it some time. Things may change as you take more and more classes in university. You may discover that you have a hidden talent in, let's say, organic chemistry or developmental biology but it does not hurt to get experience with an optometrist. You are very lucky. I wished so hard for an opportunity early on in my academic career, only to find one almost 2 years later.

Although I am from Canada, the case here is that living on campus almost doubles your cost for university (its ~ 7.5k tuition a year and residential costs can be just as much). Perhaps work a part time job as you attend school? Or even better, apply for job postings at school so you don't have to travel around a lot.

I am not sure what you mean by "Am I wrong to think I can take out loans the cost of living?" but I do sense that you can use the lack of money as motivation to do well in school.

The most important thing is, "What do you think is the best part of optometry?".
