With graduation coming up what do you think is the future of retail pharmacies? Especially, since medicare is putting a lot of independents out of business and the decreasing reimbursement rates. Do you still consider retail to be as stable as it has been in the past? Also, is it still a place to have a full career?

I was wondering the same thing. I read a post from a current pharm student that said that their school kept beating into their student's heads that in the future there were only going to be clinical jobs avail. Have you had the same experience? I was wondering why this was andyour exlanation above makes sense. Are there other reasons why this is/could be true?

I remember reading in a recent Pharmacy Times issue discussing declining reimbursement rates. They stated that the upcoming generic switch to some blockbuster drugs such as Zocor, Ambien, and Risperdal will eventually offset the decreased reimbursement rates from Medicare Part D.

That is true but most of them are chronic drugs that will eventually be filled through mail order.
