so i'm at this gym and i engage in a 'tete a tete' with this guy who happens to be a chemistry prof at a junior college near by. he says he graduated from Yale, did his research at the university of Kansas...blah,blah,blah.But he says teaching at the JC is his dream come true.don't get me wrong he loves research, but he got burnt (my oppinion) writting grant proposals. in his own words he said, "in the 60s and 70s your proposal had to have the word 'cancer' in it, and in the 80s and 90s, 'AIDS/HIV' had to be somewhere in it...sometimes I can't believe they pay me to teach at the JC!"
Do you think this is a guy who's been through the grind of academic research and is now settling (afterall he's ~60yrs old), or is there a certain loathness to writting grants in most researchers?
let's disduss
