The great tech shortage of 2021.

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yeah that was totally uncalled for. I know people are going to complain about “overmoderating” and such but we don’t need racist on SDN. Their avatar was also pretty offensive imo. Let them spread their hate speech somewhere else.

I am pretty sure he didn’t mean that. Go and check his post history; his posts including his avatar are full of sarcasm.

I would appeal to lift his ban; or at least let him tell his side of story.

We've discussed this all before, so I'll just repeat it once--none of us are excited to ban long-term members for a one-time mistake. Aside from it being a general feel-bad, none of us really like dealing with the aftereffects either. If you see someone get banned, they almost certainly received multiple warnings, as was the case here. At a certain point we can't just keep giving warnings and expecting a different result.

Obviously you see @owlegrad on a day-to-day basis, and he has no need for us to back him up, but FWIW it's also almost never one mod making the call to ban a long-term member. It was discussed by multiple senior moderators who all felt that what was posted (only part of which is still visible) was clearly outside our TOS.

There are alot of things that are said on here that are disagreeable but I always want to hear their side. It's the only way to find common ground.

America isn't easy. America is advanced citizenship. You gotta want it bad, 'cause it's gonna put up a fight. It's gonna say "You want free speech? Let's see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, who's standing center stage and advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours. The American President.

I really don't think there is a common ground with racism.

Anyways....value....something people overlook in both relationships and employment. Reciprocal value that is

No one wants the Big Mac version of pharmacy techs; glorified cashiers who hurl the slightest of conflict at nearest RPh (zero understanding of work flow just bogs down the entire team effort)

Just don't the idea of somebody being censored. Reminds me too much of banned books or book burning. If somebody is saying something crazy them people will decide for themselves if it goes against their values.

I agree.

Which is why they need to bring back BMB.

It's gotten to the point that believe any crazy **** nowadays. If I put a book out that says the covid vaccine will make your balls fall out with no factual basis, people will believe it and in a matter of few days politicians will cite that book as a source in the capital. Companies have a moral responsibility to prevent misinformation. I agree that conflicting viewpoints need to be respected but outright lies shouldn't be protected.

That's why techs need to get paid more to retain good talent. It's a two way street btw. When I was a pharm tech, I hated being stuck with that idiot floater that didn't know anything.

Who decides what is misinformation? Especially outside of their wheelhouse.

hmmmm anyone at BIG RED slightly innerved by the fact that HUB had an assignment/briefing going over the re-enabled system function allowing one to push ready-fills ahead of time despite muddying the almighty metrics? I mean, the expectations of the company being ok with metrics being somewhat compromised just smells of desperation and uncertainty with tech labor shortages

Anything to get by but simply offering higher pay and/or greater benefits. Sigh...value...definition. Bandages don't solve long term problems

There are times we have no techs on a day. So we can push readyfills through before, when we actually have techs. You are right, it doesn't solve the long term problem though.

I am just curious but which subforum gets the most action. Bans, warnings, etc. I just want to read some action there.

I don't necessarily agree with everything said and I can see that mods are left with limited options, but long term, does it do anything? No one wants for this to degenerate into something ugly but is it really accomplishing anything when I can get more ugliness on tv?

I don't know about yous guys, but whatever tech/cashier help we can manage to get seem to have a cell phone in one hand and/or ear buds in whilst on the job. Seriously WTF is wrong with this younger generation and inability to focus on a task? Zero work ethic; many showing up only 50-75% of the time (entitlement?). Big talk, big mouths saying how great they are when execution, efficiency is pathetic

It's one thing to do these things during one's allotted break time.

GenZ...more like Gen Cellphone for a brain. The Goldfish brain generation

The mods could present the facts of violation of ToS and then have a random vote of members to issue warning/banning.

This sort of thing has been a complaint since the beginning of time. Old people bitch about the lazy young people.

Meh, I don't know about that...but definitely post 2010 or so with the abundance, ease of ownership, and social acceptance of cell phones at all ages.

I don't know about everyone else, but trying to conduct business with divided attention and a cell phone out exudes rudeness & disrespect (you are not worth one's full attention/focus)

""The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place
of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They
contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers." - Socrates " - Plato

Or the Admins, who directly represent the owners of SDN, can enforce their TOS as they see fit. There is no censorship here as SDN is not obligated to provide an open forum. There are other places on the internet for you to say whatever you want.

I checked in with a couple of techs who left us early on in the pandemic. One has found a higher paying job (not as a tech) that lets her work from home. The other told me that the cost of child care + commuting was greater than the paycheck for any job she has been able to find thus far. So she is staying home.

Aren't you censoring when you limit user posts by banning them? Also doesn't SDN make money by the number of active members they have by selling ads?

I just want to clarify that you are recommending a member that is within ToS to explore other forum platforms.

You can call it censorship if you want, and it might be. However, the important point is that I don't think it is really censorship when every user agrees to certain terms and then violates them. It might be real censorship if the mods deleted every post that complained about them or painted them in a bad light, or every post that encouraged people not to pursue pharmacy. That isn't what happens. The posts that get removed violate the TOS according to the judgement of the Mods and Admins. There is a huge difference when you are talking about an agreement that all of us are supposed to be aware of and abide by.

I want to make it clear that I am neither mod nor admin. I don't care if you go somewhere else. I just think that if there are people here that want to say things that violate the TOS, then there are other places they can say those things.

That's cool and I respect that response. I thought you were a mod or admin and didn't think that having members seek other forums was what the owners of HPSA or advertisers would like to see.

I do see this more as a private forum because the terms are so broad that for example my avatar could be misconstrued as anararchy, hatred, or violence against small animals. This is SDNs forum and if they think that the color of dirt is brown and you say red then your comment is stricken or you are banned. There is no expressed right of indelible terms of the perpetuity of membership and as such I expect none but I would like to think that most members on here are graduate students and free thinkers which allow the expression of other's thoughts, ideas, and beliefs even if they are contrary to their own.
