anyone read about the new ipod shuffle, a flash-memory based player? it's the size of a pack of gum and plays up to 1gb of music for $150 or 512mb for $100. battery's supposed to be 12 hr.

biggest oversight? they didn't put in a 1-2 line lcd screen so u could see the titles/make selections. geez...even cheap 128mb players have 1-2 line lcd screens.

i'm actually considering buying one, even though my current mp3 player is far more "advanced" (color LCD, displays photos/cover art, has equalizer functions unlike the Shuffle). i think the big draw is going to be the price though; it's actually very, very cheap (a 256mb SanDisk is about $120-130 at Circuit City). and since you can use it as a flash drive, it's actually not a bad deal (a 512mb flash drive would cost $60-70 anyway) and also looks better than your average SanDisk/Lexar stuff.

Weren't these designed for atheletes/runners? I'd figure that they wouldn't have a need to look at a screen 😕

The Creative Labs MuVo has been out forever and does the same thing as the iPod Shuffle. The iPod Shuffle is pretty and the iTunes software is nice, but the MuVo does the same thing for less $$$$.

Sorry, iPod wins in popularity, and because of that, it will be a bigger success than the MuVo.

i really don't think that the iPodShuffle is worth the 100, especially when i am trying to make it out of college.

i found this site that some of you might be interested in (just signed up)

I just got mine yesterday. The unit is really tiny and discrete. It is very cool as it works as a flash drive as well.

BTW, anyone want a free mac mini ? I need 7 more referrals.... www.medpda.net/mac

The iPod shuffle would be nicer (and more expensive) with a screen. I have an iPod already. It is my 4th one. (I have had one of every gereration...I'm a tech-addict). Even with my iPod, I will still buy an ipod shuffle for when I exercise. It is basically a 512mb CD that doesn't need a separate player. It is light and I can play it on random....the same thing I do with my iPod in my Bimmer. If I don't want to hear the current song, I go to the next. If I don't 😀 like a song, it's not on the iPod.

I have a 4th generation 20GB iPod. Its nice, but isn't very good for working our or any type of physical activity. That is why I want a shuffle, not only can you use it as a flash drive, but also you can jump all around, run etc. and it won't skip.

Shameless plug: Click on the link in my signature for a free iPod shuffle! PLEASE....only need 1 more person to complete an offer!!!!

I just got my iPod shuffle... I love it 🙂

I don't miss the screen, because I know all of the songs already.

For those who have it already--- did you get any accessories? I'm tempted to get the arm band or sport case.

I LOVE my Shuffle. It's the exact product I was looking for (flash and small). My only complaint is that it doesn't handle bookmarks, and using it for audiobooks/podcasts is a huge PIA.

Other than that, it's perfect for what I needed, and a great compliment to the larger iPod.

Sorry to get in late on the conversation!

Ive found circuit city and those types of stores to be a ripoff for many types of electronics these days. (digicams also)

I got the 1GB Sandisk for $125 shipped off of ebay. I can use it for a flash drive also, but just need the cord with me. I always have a 512MB Lexar in my pocket anyway. I like the Sandisk because its got a screen, joystick, audio settings, playback settings, etc and its NOT trendy. It just works. Its a little bigger than 2 chapsticks put together. Comes with armband, cord, clear vinyl case, and software (unnecessary).
