The Late Night Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
ooh, haven't seen this thread in a while, how's everyone doing this evening. As for me, the madness that comes from waiting for an acceptance induces insomnia.

I fully believe that the days I eat salad for dinner (I do enjoy salad, just not as much as some other foods...) exist so that other days I can eat junk.

I hope you feel better and kick that test's posterior anatomy tomorrow! :luck:

Stupid parasites. I hate them all. And thanks! I'm gonna go take a power nap now 🙂

🙁 Hope that gets resolved for you soon. Currently reveling in the joys of late night paper writing, unfortunately.

College students finish essays during quiet times, which is late night.

There was really no good reason for me to drink that triple size Rockstar 2 hours ago. I'm not even studying - just tweaking out.

Generally I can finish essays anytime, but not when other exams continue to be higher priority until the night before. 🙁 It was just a bad week of convergence between many important things. Bleah.

Peace out, guys! 😴

It's between 12:00 AM and 8:00 AM where I am, so i'm bringing back late-night. Doing an all nighter studying physio here. Gah

I'll be having a late night as well. Computer programming assignment and o chem midterm this week!! Its currently 9pm where I am. This is the only night I can afford to lose sleep before it's too late!

Worked at the ED till midnight, and I have a stats test tomorrow which I'm just too lazy to study for. I did a lot of reading/problems for it earlier though, and feel like there's simply nothing I can add on to help me for the test.

Just spent the last few hours reading a John Green book due to my horrid sleeping habits and now all that can be heard is the avian version of American idol chirping outside my window.

Nocturnalist (not a word, should be) checking in. I finally go to sleep on time last night at 9pm, my sleeping habits have been horrible since becoming an RA, and I wake up at 1am.... Crazy

To pass the time I've been reading Marcus Luttrell's book "Lone Survivor." This is about the fastest that I've sped through a book. It's pretty good, IMO, so it's not hard to see why.

Not sure if I should sleep. Have to wake up in 3 and a half hours anyways.

i am attempting to leave the house at 6:15 tomorrow to go swimming at 8am before work

on another note, i am hoping to remember any/all dreams i have tonight. i vividly recall having weird gaps in between my teeth in my dream last night. it was an orthodontist nightmare i think (my orthodontist is dead 😱)

Just finished the last homework assignment and last takehome quiz of the summer semester for my Calculus class. I'm going into the final with a 92% average and can score an 84% or higher on the final and still make an A for the course (rinky-dink community college doesn't do +/-, just letter grades).

So... that's good? Tomorrow I'm giving this computer to my brother and instructing him not to give it back to me until Friday evening!!

Last night I dreamed I got lost while rock-climbing in Quebec (?) and had to ask the park rangers questions in French. My French is good enough that I can read the newspaper, but my conversational abilities are a joke. Funnily enough, in my dream I was fairly fluent!

First post on SDN. My MCAT is on August 4th, so I'm currently polishing off some organic and running through biology. I'm a late-nighter, so I've been checking out these forums since I found them about a week ago. Oh yeah, and one more thing...GO VOLS!

Last night, I dreamed I was hanging out with Donald Glover. We were taking O-chem together, and we were writing the lab report right before it was due. 😎

Sitting at the EMS place till 6am...been here since 7pm. Gotta leave at 6, drive to my house, hit the gym at 7, then lab at 9. I hope you guys cherish this moment of my life I've decided to share with you.

Can't sleep :/. I have to be at school at 7am until 7pm and I can't sleep today ahhhhh

Do something boring and repetitive which nevertheless requires your full attention.

No joke, but when I have insomnia I play pokemon yellow on my childhood gameboy color. It puts me to sleep in about 5 minutes, and I've had prescription med-treated insomnia for years.

Alternatively, lie down in a dark room with the radio on very very soft - soft enough that you can tune it out but jusssst loud enough that you can hear a little of what's being talked about. Gives your conscious brain something to focus on besides "I have to be at school in four hours."

I have to be up in 2.5 hours and I can't sleep. On the bright side, I found an awesome research lab and my interview is today.

I hate the LIRR.

I should get my insomnia looked at. This is bad. I haven't slept in two days.

Do you get insomnia more often during the summer? I find that my insomnia correlates strongly to whether or not there's more than 12 hours of sunlight in a day.

Yeah, I play "Pool Master" on my phone. It gets me to sleep pretty fast, but the problem is I refuse to get to sleep until I've won the game, and it's surprisingly difficult.

Yea actually I've noticed a pattern. During the summer I am usually more relaxed and lazy so I have more free time and that correlates with me not sleeping because I don't do anything. During fall and spring, I usually get knocked out around 10pm because of school+work+gym+volunteering.

I should have probably posted in the late night thread more often. My posts are pretty much exclusively late night/very early morning. That's just how I roll. I work only overnights and cannot fall asleep very well at "normal" times- I haven't been able to for the last several years (prior to starting overnights) for whatever reason.

I should really consider help for my insomnia, I'm becoming a frequent poster on this thread ;o

shouldn't have gone out last night....

gotta purify product for TEM in the next hour and they gotta be GOOD u feel me 😉

Ugh, came down with a migraine earlier today (abt 4:30 pacific time) and managed to ward it off for a few hours with caffeine and excedrin. Now it's back and I'm wired from the caffeine. Should have thought that one through more clearly.

Anyone out there up in the clouds right now???:whoa::corny:😏?

Watching the olympics and being scared for the fall semester is the gist of my next 3 weeks now.

Watching the olympics and being scared for the fall semester is the gist of my next 3 weeks now.

For me it's hiking, steam-cleaning the carpet, pre-studying for chemistry, flying out to see some friends for a weekend, and dealing with my annual physical/finally seeing a dermatologist.

Well, my pre-studying is going well, at least. I am in love with my chemistry textbook - it's the most readable, enjoyable textbook I've had in years, and such a pleasant surprise (as chemistry is not a subject I find inherently thrilling). I love books that really get into the history and process of the scientific discoveries that make up the basis of our knowledge. I'm just not looking forward to the first two weeks of class going over unit conversions...😴

What the hell kind of textbook are you reading? I have never, EVER had any textbook enthrall me. None have even approached the entertainment of the worst novels I've read. Even subjects that interested me greatly and weren't on highly technical topics (biomedical ethics, classical mythology) were written in too dense a manner. I got a lot more out of reading internet articles on medical philosophy and the actual mythological stories from literature. Chemistry and anatomy though? Forget about it.They help me learn, but no amount of insert boxes on cool chemistry findings can make it enjoyable.

Hey, I feel you. Most of the textbooks I've read have been pretty darn dull, and my psychology textbook from a couple of semesters ago was particularly snoozeworthy (not to mention highly inaccurate in places... but then, the prof sucked too).

Maybe it's just my warmfuzzy feelings about finally getting down and really tackling the pre-med coursework that's influencing me on this, but the textbook is:

1. Clear
2. Succinct
3. Well illustrated, but not distractingly so
and
4. Goes into the history of the science
5. Discusses medical and industry applications briefly but frequently
6. Doesn't linger interminably on the self-evident or skim too quickly over difficult concepts.

Writing a good textbook, I suspect, is considerably more difficult than writing an engaging article or work of literature, because it requires not only that you write with accuracy about a wide range of topics that may have nothing to do with your field of research, but also that you present textually a whole bunch of information in a way that will stick in students' minds... not a job I'd want to take on!!

((Worst job in the world: a math prof I had a while back told us he made a living, while an adjunct, by copy-editing problem sets for college algebra textbooks. I cannot imagine anything more mind-numbing.))

Watching the news waiting for the 5 am tropical storm Isaac update...

You in Florida? I've only been through one hurricane, and it was fun... but it was a category one in Maryland and had lost like 90% of its teeth. I just spent the whole evening wandering around the docks looking at the waves and drinking Hurricanes with friends.

Yup, gulf coast. Thats a great idea... gonna have to have some hurricanes with my buds during the storm!

Bump.
Writing a lab report.

I didn't even know this thread existed in pre-allo!

Anyways, forgot I had homework for my stats class. Full blown senioritis here. 😳

Finished ochem lab and physics, about to cry myself to sleep

Lab report due in a few hours. The prof better be mirin my writing.

Biochem exam tomorrow.

I'm probably going to be the guy in silver.

I should probably sleep before this ochem quiz....does anybody else LOVE drawing chair conformations?

All-nighter before an ochem exam. Good thing the lowest test grade is dropped, right?
